The Exorcist is a 1973 American supernatural horror film directed by William Friedkin, adapted by William Peter Blatty from his 1971 novel of the same name.  The book, inspired by the 1949 exorcism case of ‘Roland Doe’, deals with the demonic possession of a 12-year-old girl and her mother’s desperate attempts to win back her child through an exorcism conducted by two priests.

The Exorcist was released theatrically in the United States by Warner Bros. on December 26, 1973.  The film earned 10 Academy Award nominations, winning two (Best Sound Mixing and Best Adapted Screenplay), and losing Best Picture to The Sting.  It became one of the highest-grossing films of all time, grossing over $441 million worldwide. It is also the first horror film to be nominated for Best Picture.

Steve Erdmann wrote several articles on the true story on which the movie and book were based, essentially from a carbon copy of one of the several “diaries” written on the case by the priests involved in the exorcism.  The late Father Eugene Gallagher of Georgetown University graciously sent this author several carbon-copy pages along with photos of the diary and himself.  Though the names of the priests and the victimized boy involved were “crossed over” one could hold the sheets up to a bright light and read the identities.  This author combined his own research into those who involved in the early investigation of the case.   One article was in the “The Truth behind the Exorcist,” FATE Magazine, January, 1975; another was “The Real Story Behind ‘The Exorcist,’” OCCULT Magazine, April, 1975); and one booklet (“Anatomy of a Demon Possession”): available from Luminist Publications, P.O. Box 20256, Minneapolis, MN, 55420, (info@, based on my initial encounter with the environment back in the 1970s.

Scene From The Movie ‘The Exorcist’

Through the years, I attempted to be impartial as I could, though I had previous knowledge of poltergeist and other paranormal incidents which tended to sway my sympathies.  Later scientific findings seemed to confirm these feelings.   Two books, among a few, have stood out in the library: People of the Lie, M. Scott Peck, M.D., 1983 and Evil: Satan, Sin, and Psychology, Cooper and Epperson, 2008.

Several cases seemed to vindicate that such things as incarnate spirits and their human possession existed.    The following are just a few of them:

One such case involved a Pat Reading from Litchfield, Connecticut in the 1980s.   Reading was not a particular student of the occult, and never showed signs of mental illness. During this time, she began to hear strange banging sounds in her home, as well as having furniture overturned, and seeming violent attacks to her.

“Paranormal investigator John Zaffis, who recorded the events from the case, claims that hair was ripped right out of Pat’s scalp, and bite marks inexplicably appeared on Pat’s back.”

A Catholic priest was called in to perform over sixteen exorcism attempts that were unsuccessful, and Reading continued to have attacks up until her death from colon cancer. Zaffis concluded that Reading was a “soul victim,” a “purely innocent person” that had somehow fell victim to evil forces.

The horror movie The Exorcism of Emily Rose is loosely based on the true story of Anneliese Michel, a German Catholic sixteen-year-old girl that was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy.   Medication did not improve her condition.   She began seeing visions of devils and hearing voices that she would “rot in hell.”   She was reported to have injured herself, eating insects and drinking her own urine. Catholic Bishop Josef Stangl allowed Fathers Arnold Renze and Ernst Alt to do the ritual of exorcism in total secrecy. Unfortunately, Anneliese died of dehydration and malnutrition on July 1, 1976, and the priests were prosecuted of manslaughter and given six months imprisonment with three years’ probation.

Latoya Ammons:   Police Captain Charles reported to the Indianapolis Star that close to 800 pages of official documentation indicated (as of January 2014) that Indianan Latoya Ammons appeared to be possessed by an evil spirit.   “According to her, dark entities caused her three children – then aged 7, 9, and 12 – to be observed with bulging eyes, evil smiles, and strangely deep voices.”

What seemed to have begun in November 2011 as a swarm of flies by her kitchen window was soon followed by strange sounds, shadowy images and wet foot prints on her floor. Ammons then saw her twelve-year-old daughter levitated over her bed, and the girl only descended when family members and friends prayed.   The girl had no memory of this. The girl was soon smacked by a headboard which caused a wound that required stitches.   The 7-year-old son was thrown out of a bathroom; a nurse witnessed the 9-year-old son walking backwards up a wall onto the ceiling.

The children were taken away from Latoya because of alleged abuse.   A photo of the Ammons’ home that an officer took with his iPhone seemed to lend credibility to the troubled mother’s story:   A white human-like silhouette is clearly visible in one of the windows.

Clara Germania Cele:   In 1906, a sixteen-year-old girl from Natal, South Africa was recorded as being able to understand German, French and Polish, despite the fact that she did not have any prior knowledge of these languages.   Clara could reveal intimate knowledge of people despite that fact that she had never been in contact with the people. She could levitate up to five feet in various directions, and was able to throw people about with great strength.   She warded off holy or blessed objects. It was stated that her voice was like “a veritable herd of wild beasts.”

Clara had confessed earlier to Father Horner Erasmus that she has made a pact with Satan, whence she became possessed.   The demon was driven from her in an exorcism that lasted two days and much physical battle.

Julia and New York Medical College: A Caucasian women (given the alias as Julia) was attended by Dr. Richard E. Gallagher, associate professor of psychiatry, New York Medical College.    Gallagher released his report in March of 2012 telling of strange and abnormal behaviors of Julia.   The female had resorted to Satanism and openly practiced her alleged occult powers despite being baptized a Catholic as a child.   She would enter into trances, while under examination, and scream hateful phrases in voices entirely different from her usual voice, but she claimed no recollection of the events.   When having conversations with his colleagues, these same macabre voices would interject themselves into Gallagher’s phone conversations.

Julia demonstrated strange psychic abilities, such as knowing details about members of the team.   She, for example, knew of a violent “cat fight” in one of the psychiatric team members’ homes, and she commented only a few hours after the fight; “So those cats really went berserk last night, didn’t they?”  .

When the exorcism ritual was finally performed to relieve Julia, the room grew unbearably hot.   She began to speak recognizable Spanish and Latin although she apparently knew only English.  Julia also screamed in pain when sprinkled with holy water, but astoundingly would have no reaction when ordinary water was secretly used on her.   The records show that she levitated six inches in the air for approximately thirty minutes.

As of last reporting, Julia has not been successfully exorcized of the strange force.

Doris Bither:   Dr. Barry Taff and associate Kerry Gaynor investigated events surrounding a single mother of four children who lived in Culver City, California on August 22, 1974.   The events were used as a basis for the 1983 film called The Entity.   According to Bither and the children, a ‘ghost’ attacked Doris, causing visual bruising, in addition to raping her.

One Taff-Gaynor experiment in the home entailed a camera recording an orb of light that could not have been caused by any “known source within the room”.    The bending of the light within the room “could not bend the way it appears in the photograph.”

A number of books and articles had covered the one major case that William Blatty based his fiction story on, and the identity of the victim has been amply identified in that case: Ronald Hunkeler.   The purpose of this article is not to go into the usually trite chronology of the 1949 story, but to add some insight into why and how the critics have become part and parcel to a sadistic phantasmagoria that may be just as evil as the evil associated with the exorcism victim.

One such account that seemed fairly accurate was in the 1993 book Possessed: The True Story of an Exorcism by Thomas B. Allen.   Another inclusively extensive article is the one found on   The summation of events told of poltergeist activity in the presence of the boy which led to an investigation by the family’s Lutheran minister (who said he witnessed some of the poltergeist phenomena; he later lectured about his experiences at a Washington, D.C., Society for Parapsychology) and consequently  another investigation was done at the J.B. Rhine parapsychological laboratory, which further led to an investigation at the Georgetown University Hospital and a Father Edward Hughes, a priest that was attacked during an exorcism by the boy with a bed spring as a make-shift weapon.

Body-branding indicated the boy should be moved to St. Louis, Missouri, whereupon the family sought help from the Catholic Church and was given permission for an exorcism involving St. Louis priests Raymond J. Bishop and William Bowdern (Bowdern being an associate of the College Church at the time).   Ronald was moved about from a relative’s house in Bel Noir, Missouri to the rectory at St. Francis Xavier College Church at St. Louis University.

Eventually Ronald was moved to Alexian Brother Psychiatric Hospital on South Broadway to a protected ward where a final exorcism took place after several bouts with what witnesses profess to be supernatural.   It was alleged that about 30 exorcism attempts took place over 6 weeks.

An assortment of other priests and attendants professed to have been involved and to have witnessed paranormal activities (a total of about 48 witnesses, in one account, while Father John J. Nicola [who was advisor to the movie and consultant] saw the Vatican report on the case, and said there was 41 signed witnesses):   William Van Roo, Father Walter Halloran, and Father Charles O’ Hara (Marguette University).   In his attempts to aid the exorcism, Father Holloran had his nose broke, saw ‘body brandings’ such as “evil” and “hell” appear, and witnessed the shaking of the mattress.   After a final exorcism, Ronald’s life quickly returned to normal, and Ronald eventually became a scientist at NASA and had children.

Although poltergeist accounts had gained a sizable following of advocates, a band of critics of the 1949 case began to arise not only questioning, but attacking the veracity of Ronald and his family.    In his 1993 book Possessed: The True Story of an Exorcism, author Thomas B. Allen offered, perhaps in an attempt to distance himself and regain respectability, “the consensus of today’s experts” that “Robbie was just a deeply disturbed boy, nothing supernatural about him.”   Allen later modified his comments as to whether the case involved spirits as “unattainable.”

But the trend to challenge the 1949 case seemed to be based, not on objective and consensual findings alone, but rather on sub Rosa and harbored resentment to religious beliefs.   It seemed apparent that some of the said critics were out to fragment the story with any weak spots they could engender.

One such critic was Mark Opsasnick.   Opsasnick was a Washington, D.C.-based writer and cultural historian who had authored seven books and more than 70 articles on such subjects as unexplained phenomena, popular culture and rock and roll music.   Opsasnick took an interest in the Hunkeler case, and after considerable investigation, it resulted in a so-called “expose’” in Strange Magazine, No. 20, December 1998.   Opsasnick also wrote a book on his investigation entitled The Real Story Behind the Exorcist (Xlibris Books, 2006).

Opsasnick questioned most of the supernatural claims and proposed that Hunkeler was actually a spoiled, disturbed bully who deliberately threw tantrums, pulled pranks, and ingeniously fooled a lot of people {1}.   He tried to locate substantive accounts of Father Edward Hughes having performed an exorcism, and could not find any.   Likewise, when collecting accounts by Father Walter Holloran, concluded that Holloran did not witness many of the things people say: did not hear strange voices from Ronald, did not levitate the bed, and said that Ronald was only mimicking Latin.   Opsasnick also alluded to Halloran suspecting the boy doing the body “branding” with his own fingernails.   Furthermore, Opsasnick interviewed neighbors and childhood friends of the boy and concluded that they testified Ronald was exactly what Opsasnick said he was: a hoaxer and prankster involved in “role-playing trickery.”

Arch-Skeptic Joe Nickell likewise proclaimed the case a hoax by Ronald and family who convincingly produced a “stereotypical storybook portrayal” of the devil, using various gimmicks.

My history on this case goes back much earlier when I first discovered the case around 1973.   The late Father Eugene Gallagher of Georgetown University sent me a copy of an original “The Exorcist Diary”.   Consequently, I wrote about three articles.   Much later, when the Riverfront Times ran an article on the topic, I noted an enthusiast wrote a ‘Letter to the Editor’ on the topic, and it was in a short period following that said ‘investigator’ contacted me to compare notes including location of grave sites, real estate plans for homes associated with the family, photos of the diary, and a plethora of information that I and he had.  I will designate this person under the pseudonym of “B.”

It was about a year into our correspondence that I denoted B’s disposition was not entirely fair-minded and objective, but had gone off into growing cynicism and allusions into the dark history of the family, some of which, while interesting, had yet to be proven.   B suggested that Ronald was a victim of child molestation, and possibly had a cruel bent (perhaps because of the molestation, but rather just being an evil teenager).   B’s biggest ‘hero’ and proponent for his theories was, of course, Opsasnick, which he quoted at length.   He traced the family tree back several generations, portraying how this member or that member (or friend or school mate) somehow, if only indirectly, contributed to or inadvertently upheld Ronald’s hoax.

B’s attitude was typical of many current investigators which held high disdain, not just for psychic phenomena, but religion in general.   In this case, B tried to garner sympathy by saying he was a Baptist, his father a minister, and he believed in the existence of the Devil (later contradicted heavily by his stringent remarks, not only about Ronald but also Hunkeler’s family, also generally about religion and including the alleged skepticism of his father about Blatty’s book and the movie).

The second part of this article will be an incursion into the method and somewhat contradictory philosophy of these particular type critics that belie their sincerity and scientific objectivity (some are better, having a rather innocent curious approach; some are worse, demonstrating an obvious bias and a total lack of scientific stability).   These are bits and pieces of the case that are not factually detailed on their websites or in their remarks, but the questioning are necessary to demonstrate untold aspects of the 1949 story.   I will concentrate on the actions of B, mainly because he typifies the worse of the kind (not all are as unkind) and space limits the inclusion of the many examples of cynics and critics that could also possibly be included.

To be continued in Part II.

1   It seems interesting that the critics like to accentuate the evil nature of the ‘boy,’ when, in fact, ‘evil’ seemed to be a predominant factor in most possessions and the topic (not to mention the actions of the critics themselves).

(A number of books and articles had covered the one major case that William Blatty based his fiction story on, and the identity of the victim has been amply identified in that case: Ronald Hunkeler.   The purpose of this article is not to go into the usually trite chronology of the 1949 story, but to add some insight into why and how the critics have become part and parcel to a sadistic phantasmagoria that may be just as evil as the evil associated with the exorcism victim.   In Part I, we explored the background of the 1949 case and the alignment of one cynical bibliographer called B.)

B’s attitude far surpassed any of his mentor’s remarks in ferocity; the mentor demonstrating a classical and, oft times, ingenious approach to investigative journalism: get to the sources and quote them.   The problem with many of these so-called investigators is that their bias to ‘expose’ as mundane strange things did not encompass the full reality of the situation and entailed several missteps.

After a spate of exchanging materials and information (of which B was quite generous and reciprocal in many ways), he began to inject a rather preconceived notion that was guiding his investigation:  that Hunkeler was hoaxing the affair (somehow mixed-in with mental illness), and I would sometimes take issue with his conclusion as unfounded.   The following are some of the issues that led to a division of association from each other.

There are twenty-seven listed “cognitive biases” that are usually involved in any investigation.   And while investigators that have delved into the 1949 case, on any side or approach, such missteps are, as we will see, greatly found in the approaches of the discussed “critics.”    This list can be found at:

The biases include:

Bias blind spot (the tendency not to compensate for one’s own cognitive biases).

Deformation professionnelle (the tendency to look at things according to the conventions of one’s profession, forgetting any broader point of view).

Focusing effect (prediction bias occurring when people place too much importance one  aspect of an event – causes error in accurately predicting the utility of a future outcome).

Impact bias (the tendency for people to overestimate the length or the intensity to of the impact of future feeling states).

Information bias (the tendency for people to seek information even when it cannot affect action).

And, among others, the Hyperbolic discounting effect (the tendency for people to have a stronger preference for more immediate payoffs relative to later payoffs, the closer to the present both payoffs are).

None of the twenty-seven points would endorse rash or ranting ridicule, or gross biased decisions, as a format of their investigations.   Mr. B had done these in his exorcist diatribes and set the stage for his methods in his radio broadcasts.

(You Shouldn’t Be Surprised.)

Mr. B’s bias against psychic phenomena and religion appeared amply in transcribed portions of his early morning radio program which seemed to be dedicated to iconoclastic barbs against orthodoxy; and while I can sympathy with B’s trend to challenge bad authority in general, his cruel sentiments fall short in being fair and well-rounded.

The following are just a few notations and excerpts from a “composite” of previous radio broadcasts (which filled almost the entirety of his regular broadcasts):.

– 6:28 a.m., CST, “Satan Call”, October moon song “Son of Satan”: having sex on the altar to a “one-eyed goat,” missionary style.

– 6:57 a.m., CST, Sound-tract: a drive-in “Facts of Life” featured Madonna. Co-host mentioned erotic areas of a women’s body and said, “Honey, let’s play windshield wiper.”

– 7:05 a.m. CST, The host Played Gilbert O’Sullivan’s song Alone Again, meshing it with conversation about razor blades and suicide. 7:10 a.m., the host said to his audience: “You shouldn’t be surprised I’d play something like that.”   The host asked his audience if they had gotten out their razor blades yet.   “I’ll talk you down, I’ll talk you down” (7:14 a.m.)

– 7:20 a.m., CST, song Why You Love Me – anywhere we could, in the front yard, in the woods, in the rear, long and hard – going into various erotic descriptions.

– 7:34 a.m. CST. Announcer began the topic about Rat stomping.   Switched from talk of Steve Austin’s movie Condemned to talk about the missing pilot, Steve Fassett: “Frankly, I don’t care what happened to him…go down the drain….so what, he’s got money.”   The host said he could care less if Fassett disintegrated.
A review of the many months of radio transcripts would show a plethora of such dedicated bias (the radio broadcast has since disappeared from the airwaves, however):

The “I don’t care” attitude was prevalent through several of his remarks, such as this one in 2014:   “You can say or think what you want about what I say or have written in the past…I can’t say, truthfully, that I really care what people think.   I lose no sleep over it one way or another.”    The critic’s basic approach is one of carnival and sardonic ridicule of religious and Sacred Cow beliefs (and there probably “is” an exclusive audience for this type of approach and spectacle.    I have noted the critic is happiest around this sympathetic audience).

The other arena that B communicated through are several sardonic websites dedicated to his format of rancid ridicule about Hunkeler and his family members and different people associated with the 1949 case.

One website referred to itself as a site to be read on a rainy day and just for fun, and B warned readers that the reader will encounter the critic’s “flippant” opinions, and that if the reader didn’t like that, he will show you the door (2010).

The websites usually were decorated by his regular mischievous and scornful comments. He had a dictionary of favorite jabs:   “childish, contradictory”, etc.   Yet it is he who instituted websites full of sardonic bards (referring to the 1949 victim as “Ronnie,” “the Ron-ster,” “little-puke”, and other persons’ comments as “thingies”: hardly mature and stoic, scientific comments). True to his “style,” our biographer referred to a world-famous and bestselling author on UFOs as “whack-ass” (January 22, 2014).

(I noted that a “spasm” of cardinality by his readers on the ‘art’ of ‘farting’ {about April 11, 2014} has either been removed or hidden.   On his Facebook Timeline [December 2, 2013] he heralded Benny Bell’s recording of “goosing”, and Tony Cabanell spoke of “I am nostalgic for brain sandwich farts” (September 19, 2014).   The “farting” joking-fad was, in part, due to the 1949 ‘victim’s’ forensic act of smelling foully while under alleged demonic attack [if not just rabid humor on our biographer’s part]).

Placards and slogans that typified his sardonic approach headlined the radio program:

“Where good music goes to die…The Wonderful World of Stupid…The Splatting Nun!…Vintage Idiocy…House of Whacks…Songs for Fart Lovers!”)

Similarly, Erdmann wrote a letter to actor Max Von Sydow in care of the movie studio.  Von Sydow wrote back to me from his home overseas in a personal letter.    We discussed if he felt a curse had been placed on the movie, as mentioned in the press: he said no.    I mentioned this to B and B immediately promulgated (assuming great familiarity with the letter) that this was another ‘proof’ of the case being a hoax because someone else had a criticism of the movie.   In reality, B had never seen the letter or read its content, and there was no way he could have spoken with authority about the letter at all.

By pretending to be socially sympathetic to the family’s plight, B attempted to gain the confidence of family members or those who had relative information.   He assured them he was not writing on the topic at all.  The family saw through the ruse, as can be seen in their reply to B: Axxxxx (Hxxxxxxxx) Bxxxx said on April 18, 2007:

“You say you are not writing or publishing anything, yet you say that some of pictures you sent were taken as early as 1975.   I would be interested in knowing just why this research is so important to you and/or others.   Do you have a connection with these families?   What ARE your intentions for requesting this information?

“Younger family members such as my nephew, Gxxx Hxxxxxxxx, also have very little knowledge on this subject.   He told me that you had written him as well, but he said he is not going to reply to your letter at all.   I would request that you refrain from contacting other relatives on the subject because you will not obtain anything new.

“Family problems or secrets are meant to stay that way.   The years have not changed the information you have gathered.   Further information that you have requested is not and will not be available to you or others who are looking for sensationalism or monetary rewards.   The family does not wish to dredge up old stories from yesterday that may be hurtful to the younger generations today.”

Cracking the Dmons home in Bel-Noir image-1

The Family Home in Bel Noir, St. Louis

What was also interesting, upon reception of that letter, that, unrelentingly, our “hound’ went on to analyze this ladies’ handwriting; he even attempted to diagnosis that she had an unspecified illness (of course, needless to say, our ‘hound’ ‘was’ trying to gather information for publication and publicity, despite what he told the “boy’s” relative); this can be seen in his gathering information to publish, but it was on several websites that he devoted to the topic, one with a ‘visitor counter.’

In 2007, letter after letter, B meandered over the families’ private, psychological and intimate situation when there is no way he could possibly have that kind of knowledge of their personal affairs, nor did he have an expert or clinical background to make those judgments.   The victim’s father was a “whimp,”  “a weakling,” and the victim’s grandfather was also “henpecked,”  (“…and let those two women run all over him.”).   He commented that a daughter referred to her mother by her first name and that meant a sinister connotation).   He spoke intimately and fluidly about members of the family contributing to child molestation, abuse, and other private family problems.   Our amateur biographer alluded to family situations that he said allegedly indicated foul play by the parents or relatives.   In general, he claimed personal knowledge or insight into the families’ background (often in the above-mentioned disparaging and mocking tones) which, in no way, he could have had such accurate or intimate knowledge; other than vainglorious gossip and rumor, no one could.

Mr. B corresponded with a reporter D.W. Wright of the National Inquirer in 2007.

Wright had contacted yours truly for a special on the story.   I, unfortunately, not knowing B’s hidden agenda, told Mr. B about my interview with Wright. Mr. B, as was his technique to corral any available expert and try to squeeze some kind of hoax confession or hoax collaboration out of them, tried the same method on Wright. Wright’s remarks were that Hunkeler was caught off guard in his driveway and consequently refused comments, alluding to his parents as the blame for everything.   Mr. B, in an ‘ah-ha’ moment, distorted that to mean a “confession” of a hoax.   It obviously could mean several alternative things, such as Hunkeler’s parents being a driving or contributing factor to his possession or obsession, or indicating that the parents were mitigating factors in the case, other than outright hoaxers.

B joined into the speculation that the late Aunt Tillie sexually molested “the boy.”

B queried in his comments to me:   “I’d kind of like to know how long the molestation was going on; I guess we might be able to figure that out if/when we learn how long Oma…Axxxx stayed with the Hxxxxxxxs.   A clue might be derived if I can find out when Jxxxx Cxxxxxx died….” (January 24, 2007).

Cracking the Demon mathilda-house-2

Home of ‘Aunt Tillie’  in St. Louis As It Appears Today

Our “biographer” recently sucked-up some new gossip that would tend to dispel the child molestation theory:   “Regarding Axxxxx: not to me (but I can’t reveal to whom she told this), but she confirmed that her mother, in the last years of her life, had crippling MS and was confined to a wheelchair.   Therefore, she would not have even been able to sexually manhandle RH [as has been theorized in the past].) (6:27am, November 7, 2014.)

Interestingly, sexual abuse may not have been prohibited by a physical ailment on the part of a perpetrator (in this case, the suspected Aunt Tillie), as capability would extend beyond not only “healthy” people being capable of doing this type of crime.   The further question is: why is our mongering inquisitor dabbling into the private life of the ‘victim’ in such a brazen way?    He was not an authentic journalist in the full sense of the word, nor a professional detective or physician.

The late Father William Bowdern, S.J, the exorcist in the 1949 case, also was compelled to keep oaths of privacy, when he wrote author William Blatty on October 17, 1968, and I quote:   “My hesitancy in giving you the details of the case of possession is due to two facts. First, Archbishop Ritter (later, Cardinal Ritter), who delegated me as the exorcist, instructed me not to publish the case. I have been faithful to his instructions.   Secondly, it would be most embarrassing, and possibly painfully disturbing to the young man, should he be connected in any way with a book detailing events that took place in his life some years ago…I can assure you of one thing: the case in which I was involved was the real thing. I had no doubt about it then and I have no doubt about it now.”

(Something Out of the Ordinary)

Troy Taylor, author of The Devil Came to St. Louis, as well as parapsychologist, discovered the Brother Greg Hollewinske who was telecast in an Unexplained Files TV appearance telling of Hollewinske’s participation in the exorcism in the 1949 case.   At the time of Hollewinske’s interview, caught on film, the 90-year-old cleric told how he aided three priests to constrain the ‘boy,’ standing at the foot of the bed, placing his arms over the ‘boy’s’ ankles and knees.   He told the viewers that what he saw was “unbelievable” and what he believed was the “power of the Devil.”   He said: “…the boy’s body levitated…what I saw was real…what I saw, I’ll never forget.”  Was he a participant to the exorcism? “…yes I did….”    Hollewinske’s obituary stated that he did work at the right hospital, at the right time.

The Real Story Behind ‘The Exorcist’…GRid=130731720

Kim Allegrezza, a reporter for, said on July 30, 2014:

“In 1949 Holewinski (sic) was working at the Alexian Hospital in St. Louis, MO.   He heard hushed rumors of a special patient just admitted and housed on an upper level in the hospital.   It was said the child was possessed by the Devil.   He described walking into the room for the first time and seeing three exorcists around a young boy.

“Holewinski detailed how the boy’s demeanor would change when the possession was active.   Every once in a while the Devil’s voice would come out of the child’s mouth, shouting profanities.   Holewinski said he was stationed at the foot of the bed to hold down the boy’s legs, which were thrashing about.   He admits being very frightened.

“Brother Greg describes feeling the power of evil present in the room and said he even saw the boy’s body levitate off the bed. He says it all was real and it is an experience he will never be able to forget.   To him anybody who witnessed what he saw would never question whether or not this was a hoax or misdiagnosed mental disease.

“Brother Greg described himself as being terrified during the exorcism.   Items were flying around the room.   He was almost hit in the head by a glass vase.   He described the crescendo coming during an attempt to give the child communion.   A crucifix was forced into the boy’s hand, it caused him great pain.  No matter what they did, the priests could not get the communion wafer into the boy’s mouth.”

(“The True Story Behind the Exorcist,”

Troy Taylor stated on a July 31 post that he remains open-minded on the case, which represented twenty years of research.

Mr. B, in his usual sardonic fashion, postulated Hollewinske as being “drugged” on his medications, though Hollewinske appeared quite capable and sober in his interview.

A researcher, that is identified as Cori aka ChrisSCrush on a sitcomsonline chat-board, outlined several questions and areas for further research that may intrigue scientific investigators.

Why was the Lutheran minister, Luther Miles Schulze, called in originally to talk to Hunkeler, and then committed to talk on the case to a New York-based Parapsychology Foundation referent to his article for The Parapsychology Bulletin (August 1949, Number 14), titled “Report Of A Poltergeist.”

“Well, why was this article published and what did it say?” asked Cori aka ChrisSCrush.   “So, you’re an adult with a responsible community position, a child/teenager comes to your house and pulls a mischievous prank, and you go to a Parapsychology Foundation?      To say what?   Beware of pranksters?   Without seeing this article, it would seem to me that there is more to this.”

(Diary notes written by the exorcist-priests and supplemental papers mentioned the minister having housed the ‘boy’ also witnessed poltergeist activity such as a carpet floating and a chair turning upside down.)

Cori aka ChrisSCrush continued to summarize:

“Then there are the priests.   Why would people who present themselves as professionals allow themselves to be yanked around for months by a highly-strung young man staging an elaborate act?     At what point would they not simply walk off, saying, ‘He needs help other than ours’?    Who leaked this story to the press, and why did Father Halloran continue to discuss it for decades afterwards?    If absolutely nothing paranormal happened, why would professional people risk their reputations by taking a non-story to the press?

“As for the subject and any of his family members not wanting to discuss it, that proves absolutely nothing.   If he was possessed, would they advertise it?   If not, yes, they’d be embarrassed, and either way it was not their finest hour and they’d want to put it behind them.   Their behavior in no way proves anything paranormal either did, or did not, happen.

“Lastly, there is the mysterious matter of Brother Greg Hollewinske, a dying cleric who should be making his peace with God, coming forward and absolutely swearing he witnessed profoundly paranormal phenomena.   His possible involvement bears further looking into.

“I have come to no bottom line conclusion here, except that there is an awful lot of smoke for no fire.   Certainly the exaggerated events did not occur as depicted in the book and movie, but it seems to me something out of the ordinary did in fact happen.

“Another obituary showing that the purported witness was a distinguished and decorated hero!   Hardly the sort to spout sensationalism.   He came from a large family and has a brother and sister still living!”…13&mid=5991334.”

(Cori aka ChrisSCrush indicated that the exorcism case could not be divorced from the reality of psychic phenomena in general; he said:

“All the nonsense peddled about the Exorcist events makes me think of one of my favorite subjects, Chicago’s famous hitchhiking ghost, Resurrection Mary. Notice I say ‘subject,’ not ‘story,’ ‘myth,’ or ‘legend.’   There is just too much good evidence for the events, about which I have posted here:…ection+%2Bmary…d.php?t=330240.”)

A similar report came from another ‘male nurse’ attendant at the Alexian Brothers’ Hospital in 1949:   The male nurse attended the boy’s room at the time and saw many strange things.   It does not fit their ‘pattern’ so they say it is a fiction; however, I heard this man lecture on his involvement!

My first wife, myself, several St. Anthony of Padua church parishioners, Father Steve Yxxxxx and another priest, attended a monthly religious discussion group (sometime around or near 1974) at the home of Vxxxxxx and Nxxxx Axxxxxxx, parishioners. Another parishioner (I call a Mr. “Schaffer” in my booklet) was also attendant and very quiet. When a speaker eventually finished speaking on the topic of the Myth of Satan (it was a ruse to see if they could get a reaction from Ernest), Ernest became quite upset and fidgeted, and telling the group that what the speaker was saying was not true.   Ernest said that he had been kept to a vow of silence on the matter but that he would speak out that one time because he felt the speaker was not truthful.   Ernest then went into a telling of what he physically saw and did in the time he worked at Alexian Brothers’ (Psychiatric) Hospital, and his encounters with the supposedly possessed boy.   As far as I know, Ernest never spoke on it again up to the time of his death.

Ernest spoke of the ‘boy’ demonstrating some paranormal abilities and leaving an unusually large amount of bodily fluids, similar to classical poltergeist activity in other noted cases.

Another incident highlighting B’s willingness to distort concerned my misquoting B’s comments of 2007 that he saw the relatives speaking on an Internet ‘message board.’    I asked B to reproduce it for me and he refused.   Later, B pointed out my error as to calling it a “chat room,” as my being ‘unscientific,’ and his claiming no such statement was made.   Consequently, it was discovered in salvaged letters from B, that he did mention seeing the relatives’ comments on the Internet (but without a lot of identifying details in 2007) and told me that…

“…Axxxx Bxxxx posted a public message for RH on the ZabaSearch message board (it has since been removed, but it did confirm that all RH’s Hxxxxxxx cousins were still alive at that time).…I never participated or interfered with the message except to print it out (maybe I sent you one?) and the blog.” (November, 2014 email)

In the critic’s letter of September 18, 2007, he “did” tell of the family trying to converse on the Internet:

“Secondly, I’ve tapped into an attempted line of communication from Axxxxx to Rxx. I discovered this fact accidentally – she used a public, on-line bulletin board to leave the message.   She may not have known that her message could be seen by the general public.   So much for her ‘privacy’…”

(Much of B’s sub sequential and consequential comments resembled the same pattern. The last “exchange” between this particular critic and myself resembled a Tic-Tac-Toe game of traded insults, with B insisting his comments were error-free and my comments were totally faulty [and deluded] and that he was refusing any further discussion, often because he saw disagreement as some type of furious, personal anger by his opponent.)

Parapsychology had strong evidence for associated phenomena related to this case.   In a Part III, I will present some of those arguments and case histories that would suggest what happened in the 1949 Hunkeler case not to be absurd at all; that poltergeist and other phenomena really do happen.

To be continued in Part III.

In Parts I and II, we explored the background of the 1949 case and the alignment of one cynical bibliographer called B.   In Part III, we continue with further information about the case and psychic phenomena.)

The strange incidents reported in the 1949 Hunkeler case are well-within the arena and background of what is known as poltergeist phenomena.   Those cases follow a typical pattern.

Poltergeists were violent, and more often than not the activity surrounding them focuses on a single individual.   In most cases, this activity is similar to your traditional signs of a haunted house, but the aggressiveness is what sets poltergeists apart.   Here’s a list of that you may be experiencing one:

  • electrical disturbances, or electrical objects working on their own.
  • rapping or banging on walls, or other unexplained noises.
  • objects moving or being thrown around by themselves.
  • objects mysteriously disappearing and reappearing.
  • strange or unusual smells.
  • occasional levitation.

Tales of poltergeist phenomena are sprinkled throughout the literature for those who want to make this research trek; some are quite amazing.   Rod Dreher (‘The Unexorcisable Exorcist”) tells of Alvin Schwartz ‘s experiences and stories of poltergeists (“The Trouble” in Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones [page 69 if you happen to have the old box]).

“What brings a poltergeist to haunt someone?” asked Dreher.   “That’s an interesting question.   It’s generally accepted that poltergeists aren’t your normal ‘spirits,’ but rather psychic manifestations of stress or anxiety, often that of a teenager.   In other words, when exploring a paranormal explanation, poltergeist activity is often attributed to psychokinesis, or the ability to affect physical objects with one’s mind.”

Speaking of a case that Schwartz was personally familiar with, Dreher said that globes jumped from place to place; detectives and, eventually, parapsychologists, came to investigate, but they never did find out what caused the bizarre activity, even after exploring the possibility that someone was playing a trick.   “In this story, based on a true event that reportedly happened in a New York City suburb in 1958,” said Dreher, “a family, the Lombardos, is tormented by objects that seem to move on their own. Caps pop off bottles, porcelain statues rise into the air, bowls and flowers (and other material)” are moved about.

“However, the final theory by the parapsychologists was that it was possibly due to psychokinesis, arising from the family’s teenage son, Tom.

“The only explanation they could not rule out,” wrote Schwartz, “was the possibility that a teenage poltergeist had been at work, moving objects with mental power.   They did not have enough evidence to prove it, but it was the only answer they had.”

“I recall also a long, extremely creepy visit I had with a psychologist who treats multiple personality disorder, and who told me about an instance in which she treated a woman who had been raised in a Satanic cult, and ritually abused,” said Dreher.   “I sat in this therapist’s plush office across the street from a hospital and heard her talk about the bizarre, Exorcist-type things that happened, and that she was not prepared for in her experience, or her religious background.

“I have been told over the years by Protestants and Catholics who have confronted this phenomenon that if you ever have to deal with it, you will become a believer,” said Dreher, “because you see and hear and feel things that cannot be explained materially.”

“I once asked a Baptist man who dealt with these things how he knew he wasn’t imagining them.   He looked at me and calmly, and evenly, said something close to, ‘When you are lying in your bed and the temperature drops 50 degrees instantly, and your things start hovering in the air, and you hear a voice calling out your secret sins, you know that’s not your imagination.’”

Artist Conception of Poltergeist Activity

Another typical case took place in November 1974 on Lindley Street in Bridgeport, Connecticut.   A small bungalow-style home owned by Gerard and Laura Goodin was reported to be under attack by poltergeists that could move furniture, break windows, levitate objects, make a cat talk and generally perplex and terrify everyone who stepped foot in the house.   Police and firefighters were called in, as were news reporters, priests, paranormal investigators and of course, Ed and Lorraine Warren, with thousands gathered in the street, eventually causing crowd control worries.

“What made this case was so compelling and drew so much attention as compared to other ‘hauntings’ was the high number of reputedly reliable witnesses who reported experiencing the unusual activities firsthand,” said writer Ray Bendiciln:

“Beyond the Goodins and their friends, more than two dozen firefighters, police officers and other investigators on the scene saw all sorts of bizarre happenings, including couches and chairs spontaneously moving across the floor, tables and a refrigerator levitating, paintings and crucifixes fall off walls and even knives flying through the air.   They also recounted hearing a range of audio phenomena, from inexplicable knocks and banging’s to disembodied voices; Sam the family cat was alleged to have said a number of things (including ‘Jingle Bells!’ and ‘Bye bye’), while the decorative swans in the front yard were also accused of making unearthly sounds.”

The situation became confused when a young ten-year-old girl, Marcia, was seen trying to tip over a TV with her foot, and the girl confessed to hoaxing some of the happenings (interestingly similar to the 1949 case in that hoax comments were also mentioned; Hunkeler was described as a prankster and an evil boy: details of the overall mix of an obsession/possession).   What is so perplexing is that some of the phenomena took place when she was not even in the house or in another room, and strange happenings continued for weeks afterwards of the main events until they stopped.

“But behind the scenes, the inquiry into the events at Lindley Street was far from over.   Police continued to offer the family protection from the phenomena even after the case was deemed closed by the police,” said investigator William J Hall.   “The police captain also required officers, who had been on the scene, to assist in a scientific investigation conducted by two agencies: the Psychical Research Foundation, which got its start at Duke University in 1961, and the Spiritual Frontiers Fellowship.   It seems obvious that the authorities clearly didn’t believe their own ‘hoax’ explanation at the time.”

Hall continued:   “In my mind, the investigation did not dare end there. I began retracing the steps of those involved also discovered numerous new witnesses.   There were children of the witnesses from all those years before.   I contacted several of the witnesses with whom I had interviews from 1974 and 1975.    I and electrical engineers, employees who worked in the records department of the Bridgeport Police, friends of the family, Jerry’s co-workers, and, whenever possible, surviving family members.”

Police and firefighters who witnessed these bizarre events stood by what they had reported.   It was speculated that Maria’s so-called ‘confession’ and hoaxing was the only way for the family to quell the growing instability the family was encountering.

Poltergeist accounts came in all shapes, sizes and realities.   Perhaps one of the most notable, if not the most sensational, case was that of the Janet Hodgson family of August-September, 1977 at 284 Green Street in Enfield, North London.   The line of paranormal activity included levitation, furniture moved through the air, flying objects aimed at witnesses, cold breezes, physical assaults, matches igniting into flame, a T-shirt racing off a table into another room, components in recording equipment were twisted, and a deceased man’s voice (Bill Wilkins) being projected out of the 11-year-old daughter’s mouth.    The activity did not lessen until a priest was called in to help in autumn, 1978. Overall, there were about 30 witnesses.

Levitation in the Enfield Poltergest

Once again, the children were suspected of pulling a few pranks, but the documentation of the phenomena was too prevailing and over-riding.   They asked Janet Hodgson about this, and she said they in no way could have conducted the more extraordinary feats; she rejected any suggestion that the whole story was faked in pursuit of fame or money.

“I didn’t want to bring it up again while my mum was alive, but now I want to tell my story.   I don’t care whether people believe me or not, I went through this, and it was true.”

Quoting reporter Zoe Brenan: “Asked whether she believes the house is still haunted, she says:   ‘Years later, when Mum was alive, there was always a presence there — something watching over you.

“’As long as people don’t meddle the way we did with Ouija boards, it is quite settled. It is a lot calmer than when I was a child.   It is at rest, but will always be there.’

“Janet reports that it was a priest’s visit to Green Street that resulted in the incidents ‘quietening down’ in autumn 1978, although the occurrences did not stop entirely, she says, with her mother continuing to hear noises in the house.

“Janet said she continues to believe in the poltergeist, saying:   ‘It lived off me, off my energy.   Call me mad if you like.   Those events did happen.   The poltergeist was with me and I feel that in a sense he always will be.’”

The 0ctober 2005 to March 2007 poltergeist case of Susan Lewis family in Moreno Valley, California ran the whole gamut and collage of paranormal events, which included: spills, harassment of animals, electrical pranks, moving or floating of furniture, knives, pots and pans, locking of doors, destruction of screen doors, writing on walls, footprints, starting of fires, vandalism of paintings, feces on computer keyboards, and many other mysterious events.   Many photos were taken in an endeavor to document these happenings.

“As in many cases of said poltergeist infestations there seems to be very little Evidence,” said publisher Steve Mera.”    It wouldn’t be the first time families have faked such incidents in hope of being re-housed by council or private landlords.   However, in Susan Lewis’s case, which has been well documented, this does not seem to be evident. Clearly the family was distraught and Susan did stand considerable financial loss not to mention her dissolve of her marriage.   Witness reports and the submission of several interesting photographs supplied by the family help build credibility.   For me… I have no reason to doubt Susan Lewis and her family.   Clearly something traumatic had taken place in their lives. Something they are reluctant to talk about or witness ever again.”   (Steve Mera, “Poltergeist: Fear Feeders at their Worst,” Phenomena Magazine, Issue 33, January, 2012.)

What B and similar cynics have done by allowing their unbridled hatred of psychic, paranormal and religious philosophy is to disallow a train[1] of scientific study and a long line of scientists that have recognized poltergeist and other similar phenomena down to the rank of putrid bias and hatred.   Victor Zammit spoke of this briefly in his book on the afterlife:

“That is why I keep on repeating that to validate beliefs one has to apply scientific method – empiricism.   There is absolutely nothing objective about closed minded skepticism – in fact, technically, anti-psychic skepticism is a ‘belief.’   And any belief which cannot be independently substantiated is inevitably subject to complete invalidation.

“Example: The closed minded skeptic says, ‘Nothing happens when we die …’ There is no objective authority to validate that statement.   Where’s the ‘independent’ objective evidence for that? Absolutely none!   The skeptic is making a most heinous and egregious intellectual blunder when he cites ‘subjective authority’ for making that statement!   That statement would be inadmissible at law and inadmissible in any informed debate.”

Chapter 2: A Lawyer Presents The Evidence For The Afterlife,

John Smith saw such cynics as very similar to “the same manner and fanaticism of a southern state preacher; they are far from the rational Spock-like scientist they believe themselves to be.”

Similar-type cynics often followed a Reductio ad absurdum logic that could extend to fallacy:

“…rejects an argument because its consequences are undesirable, or because accepting it could mean accepting something we would prefer not to acknowledge; this can become the moralistic fallacy.

Reductio ad absurdum should also not be confused with appeal to ridicule, although both see extensive use in satire. Appeal to ridicule simply dismisses a position as ridiculous, without explaining or arguing why…”

Scientist Simon Baron-Cohen saw it as a result of “years of resentment and hurt”:

“When people are solely focused on the pursuit of their own interests, they have all the potential to be unempathic.   At best in this state, they are in a world of their own and their behavior will have little negative impact on others.   They might end up in this state of mind because of years of resentment and hurt (often the result of conflict) or, as we see, for more enduring, neurological reasons.”

Simon Baron-Cohen – June 6, 2011:

Troy Taylor’s attitude about the 1949 case, as well as possession in general, remained basically the same as it was in 2006, when he said:

“In closing, I will not ask again what the reader believes occurred in St. Louis in 1949.   The case, whether you believe in possession, demons and exorcisms or not, remains unsolved. There is simply no way to adequately dismiss every unusual thing that was reported in this case without just saying that everyone involved was a liar, drunk or insane.    For myself, I can’t say that young Robbie Doe was possessed, or not possessed, but what I can say is that this is one of the few cases of alleged ‘possession’ that has left me with many lingering questions.

“The reader, of course, is advised to judge for himself but as for this author, well, I think there are certainly more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in our philosophies!”

Part I

“Thomas Jefferson laid out in an 1816 letter to Samuel Kercheval ‘…a totally ‘free’ market, where corporations reign supreme just like the oppressive government of old, could transform America ‘until the bulk of the society is reduced to be mere automations of misery, to have no sensibilities left but for sinning and suffering. Then begins, indeed, the bellum omnium in Omnia, which some philosophers observing to be so general in this world, have mistaken it for the natural, instead of the abusive state of man.’” (Page 63, The Crash of 2016.)

(The Crash of 2016: The Plot to Destroy America – and What We Can Do to Stop It, Thom Hartmann, Hachette Book Group, 237 Park Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10017, 2013, 291 pages, $28.00.)

Thom Hartmann, no stranger to writing on the “abusive states of man,” takes us on a trek of those “stages” where “in the real world, humans must confront both nature and other humans” (p. 63).

Hartmann takes us on a trek through the formative years of the American Revolution and how the colonists conducted what could be termed “corporate vandalism” (which included the famous Boston Tea Party) against Britain and against political factions such as John Adams’ Federalists and Congressional Acts and the Alien and Sedition Act to lock up political dissenters which were called “the rabble”—Hartmann, comparing a faction known as the Royalists, speaks of a 1786 letter in which Thomas Jefferson gave “his most explicit warning about this threat from plutocracy within, and advocating unwavering vigilance against it.”

Hartmann gives multiple examples of how The Royalists (in the form of the East India Company, the North and South expansion in the American Civil War, the crash of 1893, others) exploded and grew. Hartmann quotes President Grover Cleveland in 1888:

“Corporations, which should be carefully restrained creatures of the law and the servants of the people, are fast becoming the peoples’ masters.”

In 1907, Teddy Roosevelt passed the Tillman Act which banned corporate contributions in political elections, which was quickly countered by two dark eras of economic Royalist Rule by “Corporate behemoths” which resulted in a Gilded Age after the Great Crash of 1857 and the Civil War.

Hartmann explains the stages in which economic “bubbles” arise and how they interact with war, market crashes, the Economic Royalists, and the Great Forgettings. Teddy Roosevelt acknowledged what had been referred to as the “Robber Baron Economic Royalists.”  President Franklin Roosevelt said in 1936:

“Here in America we are waging a great and successful war. It is a war for the survival of democracy. We are fighting to save a precious form of government for ourselves and for the world.”

Gerald MacGuire and General Smedley Butler spoke of a “Business Plot” to oust FDR to maintain Royalist Rule. In testimony before the house Un-American Activities Committee, co-conspirators were named, ranging from the Rockefellers, the Mellons, the Morgons, the DuPonts, and the Remingtons.

“In the 1960s, a solid middle class had emerged,” says Hartmann, “the Royalists were horrified. The conservative intellectual base, such as Russell Kirk and W. F. Buckley, genuinely feared that if a middle class grew large enough___and politically and economically powerful enough___it would inevitably lead to social chaos.” (p. 29)

Lewis F. Powell, Jr., as a Supreme Court Justice, wrote a Declaration of War “memo” on behalf of the Economic Royalists against both democracy and, what they judged to be an overgrown middle-class. The “confidential” Powell Memo, urging the courts to be used as a “social, economic, and political instrument,” aimed at the Chamber of Commerce and other Royalist-controlled-so-called ‘free market’ systems, and the instilling of “pro-plutocratic perspectives.”

The Economic-Royalists continued in spades in the Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and the George Bush’s, and assorted Presidencies and associations.  FDR proposed a Second Bill of Rights (which included eight “Rights.” One of which said there should be “the Right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident and unemployment”), but it never came to fruition. The Wagner Act of 1935 guaranteed Americans the right to form a union and bargain collectively with their corporate employers. These new protections allowed the middle-class to thrive. Unfortunately, at times, “even attempting to unionize in the workplace,” says Hartmann, “would get you fired, at best.  At worst, it could get you killed.” (p. 70)

In 1981, the national debt was a bit under $1 trillion; Ronald Reagan tripled the debt to about $3 trillion: more than any single president before him and one of his stated, biggest regrets. President George H. W. Bush added a trillion dollars more. George W. Bush added more than $6 Trillion to date, and nearly $16 trillion has been added to the actual debt. Most politicians promised to lower deficits and reduce the national debt.

“This could be written off as run-of-the-mill political-flip-flopping and pandering,” says Hartmann, “but it’s not.  There’s a cunning political strategy behind it.”

Hartmann describes economist Jude Wanniski as a “Republican strategist/faux” in which Wanniski patterned the “Two-Santa Claus Theory”: Democrats concentrating on ‘gifts’ such as Social Security and Medicare, and the Republicans centered on “massive tax cuts.”

It was a double-edged sword, in which Republicans would Santa Claus their way into tax cuts and eventually force the Democrats to reverse roles, “play Scrooge, and eventually shoot Santa Claus.”

(Jude Wanniski: “Taxes and a two-Santa Theory,” National Observer, March 6, 1976 [http://capitalgainandgames/blog/bruce-bartlett/1701/jude-wanniski-taxes-and-two-santa-theory].)

In the matrix of the ideologues, it was Democrat President Bill Clinton, besieged by Royalist Robert Rubin (Goldman Sachs) and Alan Greenspan (Federal Reserve), who signed in the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (upholding the fraudulent myth of the ‘Welfare Queens’), and disregarded Ross Perot and allowed America to grow from a modest $15 billion deficit in 1981 to an enormous $539 billion in 2012.

“A Democrat just elected to the Presidency made no difference to the shadow government of lobbyist, corporate-funded think tanks and political fund-raiser,” says Hartmann. “Clinton chose political expediency. He chose to carry the Royalist agenda forward.”

Clinton signed the free-trade death warrant for the middle class. The Democrats turned into Eisenhower Republicans, as the Republicans turned into something completely different: they stepped up their assault, they culled a no Leisure Society; instead, just a “cataclysmic crash.”

Hartmann quotes economist John Kenneth Galbraith about the on-going psychopathic “madness”: “The sense of responsibility in the financial community for the community as a whole…is nearly nil. Perhaps this is inherent…in a community where the primary concern is making money, one of the necessary rules is to live and let live…to speak out against madness may be ruin those who have succumbed to it.”

Hartmann quotes journalist Chris Hodges who described such modern-day oligopolies as Worldwide Royalists: “It’s similar to the age of the Robber Barons but in fact worse because there is no loyalty to the nation-state. The corporations are actually hollowing the country out from the inside…we’re creating a kind of neofeudalism” (p. 98)

Hartmann speaks about the tentacles of this worldwide, growing control and the looting of America by Global Psychopaths:

“American transnational corporations have historically cavorted with nations whose interests were similarly opposed to the United States – morally, at least.”

In Jeff Bercovici’s article for Forbes (“Why (some) Psychopaths Make Great CEOs,” June 14, 2011), Jon Ronson is quoted on millionaire psychopaths: “The way that capitalism is structures really is a physical manifestation of the brain anomaly known as psychopathy.”

(In the following continuation, Thom Hartmann continues to delve into the fatalistic madness of our politicians and economists who mask themselves behind hidden agendas. We also explore what Hartmann’s critics say and how he defends his beliefs).

Part I I

In Part I of our review of Thom Hartmann’s book, The Crash of 2016: The Plot to Destroy America, I outlined the American historical scene and the present-day character of the “Royalists” who Hartmann says are working to over-throw America. In Part II, I continue to review his expose’ and also speak about his critics and some further information.

(The Crash of 2016: The Plot to Destroy America – and What We Can Do to Stop It, Thom Hartmann, Hachette Book Group, 237 Park Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10017, 2013, 291 pages, $28.00.)

“Just replace the kerosene and torches with less-lethal rubber bullets and pepper spray, and this sounds like a story from 2011, when the Occupy Movement flared up and began setting up tents in public parks all around the nation, from New York City to Chicago to Seattle. But it actually happened exactly eighty years nearly earlier, when the nation was drowning in President Hoover’s Great Depression, and not President Bush’s Great Recession…We do know that no matter how bad things get during the Crash of 2016, organized people will always find one or another and begin building the movements necessary to take on the Economic Royalists. It happened in the 1930s, and it will happen again following the Crash of 2016. We must rely on them.” (pp. 206, 207, The Crash of 2016.)  (It is not a concrete prediction that a crash will definitely happen in 2016, but Hartmann warns that it will be soon, as do many other economists—SE.)

The relentless drive for the deregulation continued, following the dictates of the Powell Memo. Kenneth Lay of Enron wanted badly to run a division of his own company as a bank and to gamble on energy derivatives, without any regulatory oversight. Wendy Gramm (Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs [OZRA] and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission) worked for Enron. Gramm, along with her husband Senator Phil Gramm, rushed for the Commodity Futures Modernization Act, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and the elimination of the 1935 Glass-Steagall Act, which Bill Clinton signed into law.

“The Madness had returned.”

Hartmann says this was a weird world of exotic financial instruments built upon “credit default swaps” and “collateralized debt obligation.”  Under George W. Bush as President, the psychopathic banksters ran wild, creating out of “thin air” over $800 trillion worth of unregulated derivatives: more than ten times the annual GDP of the entire planet.

Hartmann quotes economist Steve Keen (Debunking Economics):

“It’s the structure of finance itself. There’s inherent instability in a capitalist system,” selling and creating as much debt as possible. Royalist banksters: “force-fed” the nation more and more debt. Debt financing went from 10 percent of GDP in the 1920s to 20 percent of GDP up to the year 2008.

Not only “mega-banks” (Goldman Sachs) were involved but also “mega-insurance” corporations (AIG), both “too big to fail” and “drenched in systemic risk.”

Royalists, through a series of legal and political gyrations—such as pleadings in the South Clara County verses Southern Pacific Railroad Supreme Court case—pressed for recognition of corporations as “persons” having Fourteenth Amendment Rights, and eventually guaranteed them 1st Amendment Rights, allowing them hundreds of millions of dollars in campaign advertising and protections of “speech,” but as a means to “politically destroy” any opponent. These maneuverings, says Hartmann, “blew open the doors to a corporate takeover of American politics, the corrosive influence of corporations’ having ‘rights’ was already evident. Now these ‘unequal consequences’ have been put on steroids.”

Despite the large, unfriendly consensus of the public in 2008 that the multiple billion dollar “bailout” should not have been given to the predatory corporations, “steadily – and stealthily,” Goldman Sachs and other banking elite were “carrying out a global coup d’tat.”

A portion of the book travels through names, descriptions and profiles of entities that have contributed to the present global “crisis.”  Hartmann, however, ends with several possible solutions that may give hope to citizens.

Hartmann talks about “cooperatives”—companies that are owned by employees directly bringing $500 billion in revenue to about 42 million people.  He speaks about the world “after the crash.”  He warns:

“…be very careful that, in doing so, you don’t hand your generation of Economic Royalists another tool they can use to one again rise up like lords and kings to take control.”

Hartmann also warns: “In just over three decades, the Royalists have crept in to power, destroyed the fundamentals that supported a strong middle class, allowed Wall Street and corporate psychopaths to devour working people and transform the economy into a massive get-rich-quick scheme, and nearly crashed everything, only to rise again and promise to do the same thing all over again…this is the cancer stage of capitalism…this is where we are today.” (Pages 175-176.)

Hartmann says elsewhere: “Meanwhile, large corporations, wealthy people, and banks are all making money simply playing with money. This ‘financialization’ of our economy is driving us to the edge of a massive crash. Policymakers, from the Fed to the IMF to the BIS to the US Congress and the White House should all be looking back at the lessons of the 1930s – because we’re about to learn them all over again.” July 3, 2014, 8:38 a.m.

Hartmann believes the solution lies in the hands of people who know the possibility of a stable world at peace, and are willing to sacrifice and work and put themselves on the front lines of history to build a better world.”  (p. 272)

“History – and the examples of Germany and Scandinavia – show us that high levels of unionization,” says Hartmann, “trade and taxation policies that favor the working class over the rich, and heavy regulation of the banking and speculative industries will build a strong and healthy working and middle-class, and thus a strong and healthy economy. Instead, the United States and much of the EU still cling to Thatchernomics and  Reaganomics, and the result is the continuing decline of both economies.”

Several questions have circled Hartmann’s previous associations (  Erdmann has even raised such questions about his possible associations with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in regards to his co-authoring a book that clearly attempts to point away from the CIA and to the mafia as the culprits of the Kennedy assassination (The Mafia and the Government: Two Sides of The Same Coin, UFO DIGEST, and May, 2016).

One can only scratch their head at this point, as Hartmann’s book is decidedly a Left wing, Progressive  diatribe against the established and coercive ‘ruling class’ which is about to bring down the walls of stability upon us.

The structure of the CIA has been traditionally to the Right Wing and the defense of the ruling class. What could be an explanation for such a political Condondrum? The possibilities to consider are that the CIA works with all fronts and sources, liberal or conservative (especially world-travelers such as Hartmann); and  that Hartmann has had a change of heart as to the over-powering CIA grasp and does not see the CIA as the primary culprit in our present dilemma. Other researchers, such as James DiEugenio and Hugh Manatee Wins, felt Hartmann’s interest and sympathy for the CIA has been far too friendly (even though CIA personnel, going against critics viewpoints, see themselves as protectors of our democracy): would they go so far as to speak out against (through Hartmann) “the Royalist Ruling Elite”?;;;;

Murray N. Rothbard of the Mises Institute said in his book Left and Right: A Journal of Libertarian Thought, that  the CIA as working through both political wings, Left or Right, depending on their inner needs; we quote at length and in its entirety:

“Such, then, is the face of Liberalism nakedly revealed for all to see.  Here are men—and youths—willing, just as the Egg of Head was depicted in Barbara Garson’s brilliant MacBird, to accept any conditions in exchange for working within the corridors of Power.  Here are men whining in terms of liberal rhetoric about the open society while they accept covert handouts and domination from America’s hired gang of patriotic thugs.  And, when found out, worried about their ‘image’ and ‘credibility’ and about the poor ‘liberal’ wing of the CIA!  Sheldon Sachs, president of the student government at the City College of New York, expressed not only the Liberal creed but the larger American Credo as well; in commenting on the affair he called it ‘grossly exaggerated’: ‘The funds have to come from somewhere.’  Yes, don’t they?

“Also illuminating is the revelation of the role of supposedly private and independent and charitable tax-exempt foundations in serving as covert conduits for CIA money.  This sort of thing needs extensive investigation; part of it was revealed a few years ago in the pioneering work The Invisible Government, by David Wise and Thomas Ross, but obviously this was only the beginning of study of the problem.

“Above all, let us carry away from this affair the insight that, to put it baldly and bluntly, Liberalism is, in essence, a front for the CIA!”

Hartmann has never admitted that his CIA association blemished his private writings. Only time will tell if his book is truly ‘biting the hand that feeds him’ or are his ‘inner feelings speaking for his conscience’?  Maybe honest, human error can explain some of this. Or, even, that there are those within the CIA and government that still uphold the Constitution and are truly concerned for our welfare.

Steve Erdmann

(Copyright, C, Steve Erdmann, 2016.  Permission given to quote limited passages for public education.)

“Could the Mob change the parade route, Bill, or eliminate the protection for the President? Could the Mob send Oswald to Russia and get him back? Could the Mob get the FBI the CIA, and the Dallas Police to make a mess of the investigation?  Could the Mob appoint the Warren Commission to cover it up? Could the Mob wreck the autopsy?  Could the Mob influence the national media to go to sleep? And since when has the Mob used anything but .38’s for hits, up close.  The Mob wouldn’t have the guts or the power for something of this magnitude. Assassins need payrolls, orders, times, schedules. This was a military-style ambush from start to finish… a coup d’etat with Lyndon Johnson waiting in the wings.”  Jim Garrison speaking in Oliver Stone’s movie “JFK.”

The Hidden History of the JFK Assassination draws on multiple and alleged interviews with two dozen associates of John and Robert Kennedy, in addition to former FBI, Secret Service, military intelligence, and Congressional personnel, who provided supposed first-hand information.  The book also uses government files including the believed detailed FBI confession of notorious Mafia godfather Carlos Marcello to openly reveal what the authors imagine are those who killed JFK. Using information that appears to be undisclosed and never published before, the book uses Marcello’s own words to his closest associates to describe the supposed plot. The book consists of  what appears to be a library of information concerning Lamar Waldron’s and Thom Hartmann’s belief about mobster godfathers Carlos Marcello’s and Santo Trafficante’s plot to kill JFK, as was discovered in problematic FBI CAMTEX files. The authors tell of Marcello’s prison cellmate’s (Van Laningham) recorded interview/confession on the mobs’ murder of John Kennedy on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas. The book also alludes to supposed new files and information that the authors claim was not available to Congress, which has seemingly only emerged in recent years, and supposedly and completely explains for the first time how Marcello and Trafficante committed and got away with the crime of the 20th century.

(The Hidden History of the JFK Assassination, Lamar Waldron, Counterpoint, 1919 Fifth Street, Berkeley, Ca. 94710,, 2013, 519 pages, $28,00). [1]

Waldron tells of an era when mob rule was immense and Kingpin Carlos Marcello ‘owned’ “mayors, judges, governors, members of congress and senators.”  Marcello employed his “own high-powered Washington lobbyist” and a “powerful Washington law firm.”  Marcello, says Waldron, didn’t need “approval from the national Mafia Commission before undertaking major hits.”   This often included government officials who posed a threat (such as the 1954 murder of Alabama’s anti-mob Attorney General-elect).  Marcello’s empire grossed about $2 billion a year.

The alleged break in the investigation of the murder of John Kennedy came when the FBI operated a wire-tape “sting” with Marcello’s prison cellmate, Van Laningham.  The code-name CAMTEX operation ran from 1985 to 1986.

The overall review of the authors’ books, which included two earlier books Ultimate Sacrifice and Legacy of Secrecy, reveal:

  • Godfather Carlos Marcello of Louisiana joined forces with Santos Trafficante of Tampa mob rule and Johnny Rossellli a Chicago mob don to plan the murders of JFK and were also involved in the murders of RFK and Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Jimmy Hoffa was involved in the effort to destroy the Kennedys. Hoffa bribed Richard Nixon.
  • The single bullet theory is wrong. Kennedy was killed by hired killers who were connected to the Marcello crime family. They may have come from as far afield as France.
  • The authors assert that AMWORLD was the plan to invade Cuba on December1, 1963 to overthrow Castro and place General Almeida in control of a U.S. friendly democratic regime.
  • A mob hit was planned on JFK in both Chicago and Tampa in November 1963 before the successful hit in Dallas on November 22, 1963.
  • The CIA was affiliated with the Mob in Anti-Castro plots. Richard Helms the CIA director and Howard Hunt were involved in covert planning and the training of anti-Castro forces for the invasion of the Bay of Pigs.
    *  Arch segregationist Joseph Milteer and wealthy far right fringe men were paid by Marcello to hire James Earl Ray to hit RFK.
  • Jimmy Hoffa was involved in the effort to destroy the Kennedys. Hoffa bribed Richard Nixon.
  • Many of the persons involved in the President Kennedy assassination were also involved in Watergate. They did not want word of the covert governmental actions against Castro to leak out to the public.

(The authors Waldron and Hartmann also use the same gymnastics and semantics to place the blame of the murder of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr., on the mob as well, for many of the same reasons: these contortions are amply rebutted by critics, but are beyond the breath of this article. SE.)

To the point:  Marcello hired two European hit-men that were brought into Dallas, hid by mobster Joe Campisi at his Dallas restaurant (the CIA supposedly verified that they had come into the US through Canada and from Italy).  Waldron also says that assassin Jean Souetre was in Dallas on November 22 (and was actually an alias of Michel Victor Mertz). Waldron says that CIA operatives were also seen behind the Grassy-Knoll fence at that time (Page 10). CIA officer David Morales also claimed a part (page 2). Waldron also talks about hitmen Herminio Diaz and Charles Nicoletti, and one or two of Rosselli’s “trained Cuban exile sharpshooters.”  Waldron specifically labels such accusations as “rumor” (p. 279).

Elsewhere, outside of Waldron’s tomes, Chauncey Holt (Self-Portrait of a Scoundrel), a forgery expert for the mob who produced Secret Service credentials for Dallas, and was confessed to be one of the “three hobos” taken off the railroad cars that day, told about CIA asset Aldo Vera, Charles Harrelson, Leo Moceri and Richard Montoya (Charles Rogers) also being behind the picket fence.

A fascinating aspect are the many Castro assassination plots that appeared surrounding the mob and the CIA; many mobsters or Mafioso were also CIA assets ranging from Carlos Marcello to Jack Ruby to Lee Harvey Oswald.  Concurrent Castro assassination plots which involved both the government and the mob makes one wonder who really was in charge in clandestine operations: Was it truly the “government/CIA horse” or the “Mob/CIA cart,” or visa versa?

A close alliance between the U.S government/CIA and the mobster empires seemed to be more than coincidental; more of a mutual attraction to both operating clandestinely for motivational purposes which “served to fuel the frustration of many Americans___and some members of Congress___that the Mafia seemed to operate with near impunity under J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI and the rest of the Eisenhower-Nixon administration…the Eisenhower-Nixon administration, including FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, had basically taken a hands-off approach to organized crime…one might think the Phenix City assassination would have caused the Eisenhower Nixon Administration to declare war on organized crime, but it didn’t. J. Edgar Hoover continued to turn a blind eye toward the Mafia in general and Marcello in particular.”  (Pages 90-92.)   Consequently, Waldron points out the mafia’s use of “bribes” to control officials and business (pages 464, 480).

The biggest collusion seemed to be the mutual interests in the assassination attempts of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro (638 murder attempts to date) by programs invented by both, the U.S government/CIA and the mob; the mob having lost lines of income from casinos and mafia-controlled business since their expulsion from Cuba.  Those programs by both factions are described in this “short list”:

  • The JFK-Almieda coup plan (May 29, 1963).
  • The CIA-mafia plots.
  • The JURE plan as run by Ray Manolo.
  • The AMTRUNK plan.
  • The Cuba Contingency Plan (pages 271-272).
  • The Amworld and JFK’s Cuban-American training at Fort Benning – CAMCO.

In the “mutual interests” of both the U.S government/CIA and the mob to search out and secure clandestine “assassins” to use in these programs, a number of Mobsters became “CIA assets” and worked with and became employed in various ways with the CIA.  The following is another “short list” of officials or entities that worked with the CIA (and other agencies) on plots and plans (many with mob connections):

Lee Harvey Oswald – CIA asset/mafia/Naval Intelligence.

David Morales – CIA asset/ mafia.

Thomas Arthur Vallee – CIA asset/mafia.

Tony Verona – Mafia/CIA asset.

Eladio del Valle – CIA asset/mafia

Miguel Casas Saez – CIA asset/mafia

Angel Dominguez Martinez – CIA asset/mafia

Gilbert Lopez – CIA asset/mafia.

Desmond Fitzgerald – CIA asset/mafia.

Michel Victor Mertz (alias Jean Souetre) – CIA asset/mafia.

Howard Hunt – CIA asset/mafia.

Sam Giancana – Mafia/CIA asset.

Rolanda Cubela – CIA asset/mafia.

Jimmy Hoffa – Mafia/CIA asset.

Antonio Veciana – CIA asset/mafia.

David Atlee Phillips – CIA asset/mafia.

George Joannides – CIA asset/mafia.

Carlos Marcello – Mafia/CIA asset.

Santo Trifficante – Mafia/CIA asset.

Loren Hall – CIA asset/mafia.

Guy Banister – CIA asset/mafia.

Benard Barker – CIA asset/mafia.

William Harvey – CIA asset/mafia.

James O’ Connell – CIA asset/ mafia.

John Roselli – CIA asset/mafia.

Charles Nicolletti – CIA asset/mafia.

Manuel Artime – Mafia/CIA asset.

Alberto Fowler – CIA asset/mafia.

While the list may not be all-inclusive, and there will always been some debate of the CIA/mafia ingredients which constituted the mixture, it does indicate the far-reaching integration of both CIA/government agents co-joined and aligned with mob connections.  Waldron occasionally peers into this alliance, when he tells on page 468:

“One government informant, Charles Crimaldi, said that Giancana was killed by someone who worked for the CIA, though the hit man was acting on his own and not at the request of officials. Since several CIA assets and officials also worked with the mafia, the hit man could have been someone with ties to both the mob and the agency.”   Waldron also says on page 278: “it’s also likely they weren’t the only shooters but simply the ones provided by Marcello.”

The reader will notice the constant “distancing” the two authors (Waldron and Hartmann) go through to separate the CIA from the skullduggery of the mob in various “not-really-the-CIA-did-it comments.”  Fortunately, the intimate and ‘far-too-close’ tight relationship between the Mob and CIA was seen in the comments of many researchers and mobsters together; in discussing events of the Kennedy election to the Presidency, the death of Marilyn Monroe, and, the assassination of John Kennedy, mobster Sam Giancana told his brother Chuck of the hydra-monster alliance of the CIA with the Mob:

“What about the assassination of JFK?  Was it the mob or the CIA?

“Mooney leaned forward: ‘Look, this is one of the Roman gods. This one has two faces…two sides. That’s what we are, the Outfit and the CIA…two sides of the same coin.  Sometimes our government can’t do shit on the up-and-up.  Sometimes they need a little trouble somewhere or maybe they need some bastard taken care of…Jesus, they can’t get caught doin’ shit like that.  What if people found out? But we can. Guns, a hit, muscle…whatever dirty work needs to be done.  We’re on the same side, we’re workin’ for the same things…we just look different.  So…we’re two sides of the same coin…If you think we had Truman…let me tell you…we got this deal sewn up. Ike, all he does is play golf.'”

“‘So that’s what you like about the guy,’ Chuck teased.”

“‘Shit, he’s a pigeon…it’s Nixon that’s got the power. He’s the one with the backing of the big money, like Hughes and the guys in California and the oilmen in Texas…Hump says Nixon’s gonna call us if he needs a little hardball behind the scenes.'”

“‘From now on you can call me Sam Giancana, civil servant.'”

Double Cross by Sam and Chuck Giancana. (New York: Warner Books, 1992.)

The following were excerpts from the book, America’s Corrupt War on Drugs–and the People, by Captain Rodney Stich, where he told of the multiple CIA/Mafia connections in crimes that involved money laundering, drug smuggling, and assorted clandestine activities.

One such informant was Richard M. Taus who had been a Special Agent for the FBI from 1978 to 1988, during which time he was assigned to organized crime and foreign counter-intelligence operations.  He held the responsible position of relief Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) in the New York City area.  In addition to his FBI duties, Taus was a Pilot-In-Command (PIC) flying missions for the FBI’s New York Field Office.  The New York Times Reference Book for the Year 1988 lists Taus under “FBI Events.” In the 1980s he conducted an undercover operation as part of a group consisting of 17 special agents.  He also held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the aviation branch, U.S. Army Reserve. Originally, Taus was with the OSS and then the CIA and military intelligence.

Dee Ferdinand, daughter of mobster Albert Carone of the Gambino crime family, described her father’s concurrent relationship with the Mafia, the New York City police department, and the CIA.  Dee pointed out that what she described was confirmed by independent sources, including Jim Rothstein of the New York Police Department and CIA operatives Gunther Russbacher and Oswald LeWinter. She filled in missing Mafia and CIA links that FBI Special Agent Richard Taus had suspected during his FBI investigations.

“Having grown up in a Mafia family and being friends with top Mafia bosses, Dee was very helpful in explaining the complex relationship between the Mafia and the CIA,” said Stich.  “She explained details of her father’s activities as a CIA paymaster, moving money to and from the Mafia families in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, the CIA, the Mossad‘s involvement, and payoffs to the New York City police department.”

Taus had given Stich a list of some of the Mafia figures that he investigated. Dee Ferdinand said that some of the names were family members; “Angelo Ruggiero was my father’s cousin.” Neil Dellacroce was related to Ferdinand’s father, referring to Joe Percillia by his alias, Joe Pickle. Dee Ferdinand said that they were with the Genovese family and the Gambino family as they merged. They were also with the Colombo family.

Albert Carone was primarily connected with the Genovese and then with the Gambino family, and also the Colombo family through Joe Percillia.  She said her father also had lesser connections to other Mafia groups.

A thorough reading of the book continued to demonstrate the close alignment of the government and mobsters.

Growing Up in a Mafia Family: FBI Veteran Reveals CIA-Mafia TiesRodney Stich [Investigator and a hardcore-corruption-fighting whistleblower] September 1, 2014.

Antoinette Giancana not only said that there were strong ties between the CIA and the mob, but that her father, Sam, had been “running a scam in order to pocket millions of dollars in CIA funding.”

According to declassified CIA “Family Jewels” documents, a plan in 1960 between Miami Syndicate, lead Santo Trafficante, Robert Maheu, Johnny Roselli (a Los Vegas mobster) in developing a $150,000 plan to “remove” Castro. The plan apparently did not materialize; however, Giancana authorized using poison pills.  Nominees Juan Orta and Anthony Verona, however, failed in their attempts.

“Verona requested $10,000 in expenses and $1,000 worth of communications equipment,” said MafiaWiki. “However, it is unclear how far the second attempt went, as the entire program was cancelled shortly thereafter due to the launching of the Bay of Pigs invasion.”

Assassination researcher Robert P. Morrow debunked the work of Waldron and Hartmann as a clever cover-up of the real motive of the murder of JFK: it was a “coup d’état” rather than a “mob hit.”  Lyndon Johnson, the CIA and the shadow government of Texas oil men and Rockefellers, said Morrow, murdered John Kennedy. Morrow said that that fact is craftily hidden by Waldron-Hartmann from the readers view.  Morrow explained:

“The big problem with these ‘Mob did it’ scenarios is that:

“1. They either ignore or twist who Oswald was, which is really inexcusable today in light of so much good work by writers like Newman and Armstrong.

“2. They do not relay how the cover up actually went into effect almost immediately in Dallas, Washington and New Orleans: Which is something we can prove today.

“3. They do not explain what two keystones of the plot and the cover-up are: Mexico City and Bethesda.

“4. They do not explain why the cover up has lasted 47 years–which it has.

“5.  They do not explain the reversals of policy that took place in Cuba and Vietnam, almost immediately afterwards. Dark Side of Camelot by Seymour Hersh and also Family of Secrets: The Bush Dynasty by Russ Baker.”

Robert P. Morrow on March 19, 2011.

Researcher Herbert L. Calhoun likewise was critical of the authors’ “soft pedaling” of CIA’s Richard Helms’ “nest of vipers”:

“Helms is the only human being in the known universe with the omnipresence, panoramic overview of the whole assassination landscape, and meta-manipulative and operational skills and capabilities, to have been able to actually carry out all the various nested phases of the plots that were needed to end up with a perfectly orchestrated murder at high noon in Dallas on November 22, 1963.”

It was the CIA, said Calhoun, which carried out all the “necessary phases” of the assassination and cover-up, the botched autopsy, and even the murders of John Roselli and Sam Giancana___a jerry-rigged scenario by Waldron and Hartmann that “that someone in the clock tower at Langley had to have murdered JFK. The JFK assassination was not just an intelligence operation it was an intelligence operation par excellence, one of a very, very high order, perhaps the best ever.”

Calhoun pointed out the firing of Allen Dulles, Charles Cabell and Richard Bissell from their CIA “perch” also involved the twenty-two or so “back channel messages” sent between Sam Giancana and JFK by courier and shared girlfriend, Judith Campell Exner telling of the “trio’s” actions of treason in the Bay of Pigs operation.

“…it was because two of the key mob players were engaged in a ‘double game’ to inform JFK of the treason going on behind his back at Langley that the trio was fired and the head of the CIA snake was eventually cut off.”

Calhoun continued: “It was Langley, not the mob, not Lee Harvey Oswald that decided that JFK had to die.  And to carry out that execution, it was also Langley that concocted an exquisitely complex, devious, and it must be said, elegant intelligence operation to kill both our President and our democracy.”

A New “Jerry-rigged limited hang-out” Scenario to Protect Richard Helms?

 Herbert L Calhoun on November 27, 2011. .

Boyce Harton’s comment about Ultimate Sacrifice and Legacy of Secrecy summarized the general consensus:

“Too little attention given to JFK’s back channel to Castro, and once again the evidence does not support the authors strong conclusions about JFK’s commitment to the coup, given the backchannel and given the authors seemingly predetermined view that the Mafia was more to blame than the CIA…However, this book suffers from the same problem as the last one. It assumes too much power for the Mafia and too little for the CIA.”  January 29, 2009.

Noted Kennedy researcher and author, David Talbot (founder and lead editor for Salon Magazine) told of disowned CIA Director, Allen Dulles, hunkered-down at a remote northern Virginia CIA facility called The Farm (an alternate CIA command post) during the whole murderous weekend when JFK and Lee Harvey Oswald are eliminated.  Likewise, Talbot spoke of CIA-assassin- official William Harvey being flown into Dallas early in November 1963 from Rome.

This is a remarkable sighting,” said Talbot, “because to place someone like William Harvey, the head of the CIA’s assassination unit, put there by Allen Dulles, in Dallas in November of ’63 before the assassination is a very important fact.  The CIA, by the way, refuses, even at this late date, to release the travel vouchers for people like William Harvey.”

Did the CIA Boss Bring in the Head of the CIA’s Castro Assassination Team to Kill JFK?

October 19, 2015,

The following are statements by Kennedy researchers that lay out a deeper, alternative and just as genuine Kennedy-murder-scenario (Kennedy63):

“Now, here is the sum of this reasoning: CIA dons military uniforms and ranks, works with national and international crime syndicates,” said Kennedy63, “and still has EXECUTIVE ACTION capabilities (worldwide). Given the wide and deep propensities of the CIA, how could anyone doubt CIA involvement? Washington and many local governments (most departments) were so corrupted by organized crime, favoritism, and deference to powerful people, which most people did what they were ‘told’ to do, rather than make life hard for themselves or family members.”

March 24, 2014 at 9:25 pm,

“The Mafia-sourced explanation, the Unspeakablers think,” said Nicholson Baker, “is no more than a convenient blame-shifting distraction, a ‘false sponsor’ pushed on the public by the CIA to divert attention away from a much bigger plot that originated deep within the hard-right Invisible Government.  (And to a limited degree, of course, they’re right: the CIA is an opportunistic fungus, and its apologists have often used the practice of ‘limited hangout’ to shield from public view its history of murderous screw-ups.).”

Dallas Killers Club-How JFK Got Shot, Nicholson Baker, The Baffler No. 25, 2014.

“I think that the hit was systemic, that the entire military industrial complex was involved.  But this does not mean every single person working in military industry, or in government or the intelligence community.  This system is hierarchical and compartmentalized; machinists, foot soldiers and filing clerks do their jobs on a need to know basis, and they need know very little.

“A systemic hit of JFK means that there was a consensus at the highest levels of government and business to remove Kennedy.  A coup d’etat.” Willy Whitten,

January 26, 2015 at 9:55 am.

“That Allen Dulles exercised enormous power,” said James A. Warren on October 13, 2015, “and abused that power in myriad ways; that he ordered assassinations of undesirables abroad; that his CIA destabilized foreign governments in the Third World based on grossly exaggerated assessments of Soviet subversion; that he integrated high-level Nazi intelligence agents into CIA and West German intelligence networks—all these allegations are clearly borne out by the facts presented here, and confirmed by the work of many other investigators.”

Researcher James Fetzer concluded:

“But the mob could not have altered X-rays under control of medical officers of the US Navy, agents of the Secret Service, or the president’s own personal physician. Neither pro- nor anti-Castro Cubans could have substituted another brain for that of JFK.

“And even if the Soviets had the capacity to fabricate movies comparable to that of the CIA and Hollywood, it would have been unable to get its hands on the Zapruder film.  These things could only have been done with complicity from the highest levels of the American government.

“Unfortunately, their scenario is completely ludicrous.

“(1) After the abortive “Bay of Pigs” fiasco, JFK had entered into agreements with the Soviet Union that the US would not invade Cuba, which he could not have been broken, even covertly, without profoundly tarnishing Kennedy’s reputation and that of the US.

“(2) There are more than 15 indications of Secret Service complicity in setting Kennedy up for the hit.

“(3) The autopsy X-rays were altered to conceal a massive blow-out to the back of the head and by adding a 6.5 mm metallic slice.

“(4) The home movie of the assassination was re-created to remove incriminating evidence, including that the driver, William Greer, brought the limousine to a halt after bullets began to be fired.”  See also: Assassination Science: Experts Speak Out on the Death of JFK, James Fetzer, Carus Publishing.

NO TRUE CONFESSION

Researcher Jeff Morley said on March 24, 2014 that prisoner Van Allingham did not confess what the FBI said he confessed:

“But those claims are impossible to corroborate, according to Anthony Summers and Robbyn Swan.   (Summers was author of Not in Your Lifetime,  one of the best books about JFK’s assassination.  Swan was co-author of their book on the Sept. 11 attacks, The Eleventh Day).

“Two FBI agents who supervised the wiretapping of Marcello at a federal prison told Summers and Swan that Marcello never made the remarks attributed to him.

“Summers and Swan also found that Trafficante’s widow, his two daughters, and several friends and neighbors disputed Ragano’s account.

“So the ‘Mafia done it’ theory of JFK’s death lacks evidentiary support on a key point.”

Jim DiEugenio typified the many critics of Waldron/Hartmann and he had devoted several reviews and analyses of their work pointing out the untrue, misleading and strained results of their tomes.   He also found fault with the CAMTEX scenario.

Waldron alluded to the CAMTEX file as a startling new discovery of some sort (found in 2006), when, in fact, DiEugenio talked about being sent the file by researcher Peter Vea in 1997, ten years before Waldron and Hartmann found them, and before the authors claimed in Legacy of Secrecy to being published for the first time (page 46).  Even Vincent Bugliosi referred to them in his book Reclaiming History (pages 658-659).

Vea and DiEugenio concluded that Marcello showed signs and conditions of Alzheimer disease, and by 1988-89, Marcello was in full deterioration from Alzheimer’s and a series of strokes that contributed to his sordid confessions to various people.   “And later on, when told about the jailhouse informant’s accusation that he had Kennedy killed,” said DiEugenio, “Marcello replied that this was ‘crazy talk’”.   (Bugliosi op cit p. 658.)

Noted JFK researcher John Simkin said the information Waldron and Hartmann received was typical of government disinformation:

“Lamar was a victim of a CIA disinformation campaign. These ‘leaked’ documents completely changed the direction of his work.  He constantly told me that the CIA would officially release documents that would support his story.  This never happened and as a result he was discredited.  He is not the first researcher to suffer from so-called friends within the CIA.” (‘Jim DiEugenio’, September 21, 2011, 6:53 AM.)

Journalist Anthony Frewin was likewise skeptical of the “mob did it” theory (Marcello was promised early release for his cooperation with agents) and he said as much in “An Offer We Can Refuse” in Lobster Magazine where he also questioned the mentality of Carlos Marcello and accused the authors of “cherry-picking” the evidence to take the ‘heat’ off the government (whereby the authors [Waldron/Hartmann] had been given all too much mysterious cooperation).

Noted JFK researcher Wiliam Davy also highlighted the fact that Florida Department of Law Enforcement special agent, Ken Sanz, while cooperating in the research on a book about mobster Trafficante, he also denied any evidence that Trafficante was the perpetrator of such a Miami assassination plot (which Edwin Black definitely proved to be a real plot, minus any Trafficante planning).  Said Sanz: “In all the research I’ve done on the matter, I’ve never heard of such things; Never. And quite frankly, it’s fresh on my brain.” [2]

William Davy, 2010.

Fellow JFK researcher Joan Mellen furthermore pointed out the occasions where Bobby Kennedy was not nearly as adamant in his opposition to Marcello as the Waldron/Hartmann authors campaign:

“Those who put forth this view forget that Bobby Kennedy was not entirely an enemy of the Mafia, for example, during Operation Mongoose, a 1963 effort to rid us once and for all of Fidel Castro, which Bobby pursued with enthusiasm. Bobby had his CIA assistant Charles Ford, aka Charlie Fiscalini, take a trip to Canada to locate organized crime hit men to assist in the assassination of Fidel Castro.”

The biography of (the sometimes co-author and research adjunct to Waldron), Thom Hartmann looks like a scene out of the movie THE GHOST WRITER [3]:  Hartmann has associated with a spray of billion-dollar companies about the globe, “400 of the Fortune 500 companies as well as the NSA, CIA, and other government agencies.”

Hugh Manatee Wins pointed out the obvious implications here:  “Hartmann is so obviously a CIA asset…his two assassination books are right out of Langley…you didn’t know he’s a silver-tongued alphabet gatekeeper?” [4], Hugh Manatee Wins, Friday, April 10, 2009, 1:44 am.

Many investigators knew that the differences between how the Mob operated compared with the operation of the “strings” of popular government (that any dissimilarity was so much prosaicisms and sophistry): when it gets down to the matter of power, control and greed, there is no difference:

Joy Pullman, managing editor of The Federalist, put it this way: “The ultimate way to earn power over other people is to threaten not just their livelihood, but also their lives, and the lives of those they love.  On that note, perhaps it’s appropriate to mention that the Internal Revenue Service and U.S. Department of Education each have their own SWAT teams.”

Even closer, Code Zero website details twelve specific similarities between the mob and general government structure (as it is today):

“I’ve written here some the similarities I can see immediately without really giving it much thought and you may agree that it is a frighteningly close comparison.

“Two groups of people engaging in the same activities with one goal in mind: More Money.  One group calls itself a Government whilst they call the other group The Mafia.”

Tyler Durden on his news site (February 6, 2014) quoted contributor Charles Hugh-Smith of in outlining six unavoidable characteristics of common government and the mob, and Hugh-Smith also added:

“Once the mafia state of mind has seeped into every nook and cranny of the society and economy, it’s not even recognized as corruption: it’s simply the way the system works. [5]

“We recently spent a few days with a friend who was born and raised in Sicily who now lives elsewhere in Europe with his wife (also Italian, from Naples).  Though we talked of many things, one of his comments struck me like a bolt of lightning.

“The Mafia isn’t about shoot-outs, he said; the mafia is a state of mind….”  [6]

Bill Simpich once again similarly resolved in with a cogent summation reflecting the general and on-going JFK assassination debate, in his “State Secret”:

“This work is integral to all movements that build civil society in the United States and around the world.  Assassinations are a heinous tool used to prevent individuals and movements from realizing their potential.  Assassinations are designed to break the spirit of the people.

“Do we want to maintain our integrity as a people?   The only way is to stand shoulder to shoulder and get it done.  Many champions fighting for social change have fallen to forces that avoid the light.  The path to justice is to name those forces and to take decisive action.”

A Cinematic Parallel of Thom Hartmann:

When Ruth Lang sees the writer raising a glass, she is kept from following him by Emmett (the CIA handler) and other assistants.   As the writer leaves the party he attempts to take a taxi. Then, as he crosses the street off-camera, a car accelerates in his direction, and sound effects and flying papers indicate that he has been hit. (See footnote number three.)

Lamar Waldron: Investigative Kennedy Assassination Reporter.

[1]  Lamar Waldron’s recent book is part of a trilogy, Ultimate Sacrifice (2008), co-authored with Thom Hartmann, and Legacy of Secrecy (2013), Counter Pointe Publishers.  We will refer to all three at frequent points throughout this article as a composite thesis.

[2]   William Davy also said:  “Further, there is an almost pathological use of conditionals; may have, perhaps, could have, if, etc. Conversely, there is an overabundance of hackneyed declaratives where conditionals should have been used, as well as an over-reliance on unnamed sources. And yet this dogged pursuit and elucidation of the documentary record is supposed to be the sine qua non of these two books.   (Along with the dubious information they gleaned from interviewing Cuban exile Harry Ruiz Williams).”  This appears to be true in all of the Waldron/Hartmann books (SE).

[3] “The Ghost Writer (released as The Ghost in the United Kingdom and Ireland) is a 2010 British political thriller film directed by Roman Polanski. The film is an adaptation of a Robert Harris novel, The Ghost, with the screenplay written by Polanski and Harris. It stars Ewan McGregorPierce BrosnanKim Cattrall and Olivia Williams“…the plot involves the twists and turns of CIA undercover skullduggery: some  scenes:

(After several clues found by the previous ghost-writer before his death, the new writer investigates leads that tell him his predecessor had discovered a CIA connection in which a Professor Paul Emmett had been training Lang’s wife as a CIA plant. The new writer [having traced Emmett’s CIA background on the Internet] confronts Lang while in flight and is rebuffed.)

“Upon leaving the aircraft, Lang is assassinated by a British anti-war protester, who is in turn shot by Lang’s bodyguards. Nevertheless, the writer is asked to complete the book for posthumous publication, as in light of Lang’s death it will be a certain best-seller. Amelia invites the writer to the book’s launch party in London, where she unwittingly tells him the Americans tightened access to the book, as the ‘beginnings’ contained evidence threatening national security.   She also tells him Emmett was Ruth’s tutor when she was a Fulbright scholar at Harvard.   The writer realizes the clues were hidden in the original manuscript in the opening words of each chapter, and discovers the message: ‘Lang’s wife Ruth was recruited as a CIA agent by Professor Paul Emmett of Harvard University.’   He concludes that Ruth shaped Lang’s every political decision to benefit the U.S.A. under direction from the CIA.

“The writer passes a note to Ruth telling his discovery.  She unfolds the note, and is devastated.   When she sees the writer raising a glass, she is kept from following him by Emmett and other assistants.   As the writer leaves the party he attempts to take a taxi. Then, as he crosses the street off-camera, a car accelerates in his direction, and sound effects and flying papers indicate that he has been hit.”

[4] Waldron and Hartmann pin high-hopes on the disclosing of the so-called Kennedy assassination files in a few years.  That this will actually take place, many are doubtful, and just as doubtful is the reality that the files will be uncensored, not tampered with, unblemished or manipulated.

[5]   “Corporate power permeates the entire social fabric of our society.  Along with owning the media, the corporate business class…controls much of the rest of America too, including its financial, educational, medical, cultural, and recreational institutions.  Thus, the dominant capitalist interests not only structure the way the media report reality, they structure much of the reality itself.   The ideological character of the news, then, is partly a reflection of the journalist’s ‘routine reliance on raw materials which are already ideological’”    Inventing Reality: The Politics of the Mass Media, Michael Parenti, St. Martin’s Press, 1986.

[6]    “Marks continued to press the CIA for more MKULTRA information.  He explained to me what then happened.  A CIA official told him the following: in 1962, after ten years of mind-control experiments, the whole program—which supposedly was shut down—had actually been shifted over to another internal CIA department, the Office of Research and Development (ORD).

“The ORD had a hundred boxes of information on their MKULTRA work, and there was no way under the sun, Marks was told, that he was ever going to get his hands on any of that.  It was over.  It didn’t matter how many FOIA requests Marks filed. He was done.  The door was shut.  Goodbye.

“The CIA went darker than it ever had before.  No leaks of any kind would be permitted.

“In case there is any doubt about it, the idea of relying on the CIA to admit what it has done in the mind-control area, what it is doing, and what it will do should be put to bed by John Mark’s statements. The CIA always has been, and will continue to be, a rogue agency beyond the reach of the law.”

Thoughts About the Nature of UFOs and Their Future

Steve Erdmann

(Copyright, C, Steve Erdmann , 2015)

The Rev. Scott Gerard Prinster is a Ph.D. candidate in the history of science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.   He recently made comments that appear on the minds of many people:

“Since my youth I have been drawn to the world of science fiction, to books and film depicting human life shaped by futuristic science as wondrous magic.   I understood that these stories were really speaking about our present-day society and pointing out the opportunities and dangers posed by our progress.   Maybe that’s why the most interesting aspect for me was the vision authors imagined for our future.   How will humanity respond to the problems we are facing today?   Will we overcome disease and aging and outgrow the need for war and brutality?”

(UU World Magazine, Fall, 2015, “Better than Human? The Ethical Challenge of Bio-Technology and Transhumanism.”)

Within the past four years, two books approached these questions, but more so in the vain of the UFO (flying saucer) Mystery and its possible beginnings, routine, and future relevance to science.

Kenn Thomas’ investigation into a June 21, 1947 UFO incident and dumping of UFO fragments into the Puget Sound near Tacoma, Washington also went into “Para politics,” the Oliver Stone 1991 movie JFK, CIA agent clay Shaw, and a mysterious CIA asset, Fred Crisman, who seemed to mesh into several paranormal and political incidents in 1947 and over the years, making one wonder if a mosaic of “1947 events” (the 1947 Roswell UFO crash, the 1947 creation of the Central Intelligence Agency, the creation of the 1947 Air Force UFO Project Sign, the 1947 operation High Jump which met heavy resistance by UFOs, the 1947 creation of the NSC [National Security Council] and Comint [Communications Intelligence], and others) didn’t collectively have something to do with a Pandora’s Box of reality having been opened and whereby unleashing infectious demons that have yet to be resolved.

(JFK + UFO-Military-Industrial Conspiracy and Cover-up from Maury Island to Dallas, Kenn Thomas, Feral House, 1240 West Sims Way, Suite 124, Port Townsend, Washington 98368,, 2011, 271 pages, $17.95.)

Micah Hanks views what appears to be some of the ‘same’ UFO mysteries, their origins, but with extra ‘metaphysical’ viewpoints.   Hanks sees the solution to the UFO Mystery as clandestinely happening behind current scientific progress and, perhaps, even being manipulated by unknown forces and agencies.

“…far be it from me, let alone the staunchest skeptics among us to hope to derail any one’s belief in Alien visitation here on earth,” says Hanks.   “The bottom line is that we simply don’t know what, exactly, we may be dealing with when it comes to UFOS. At present, we only have a few reasonably good ideas.”

Hanks quotes Alexei Turchin, a Russian Transhumanist, on the nature of the UFO phenomenon:

“UFOs are a reflection of our fears.   They represent a certain kind of taboo, and are often a scapegoat in the absence of real science…often to test the edges of our rationality, or our ability to rationally and somberly look into the unknown.”   (The UFO Singularity: p. 213.)

(The UFO Singularity, Micah Hanks, New Page Books, a division of the Career Press, Inc., 220 West Parkway, Unit 12, Pompton Plains, N.J. 07444,,, 2013, 287 pages, $15.99.)

The Maury Island UFO incident seemed “physical” enough. Harold Dahl, his son, Charles, a pet dog, and two unidentified crewmen were impinged upon by an estimated twenty tons of UFO debris deposited over Puget Sounds, damaging The North Queen boat, killing his dog, and injuring his son (who soon left the territory with amnesia, but later allegedly found in Lusk, Wyoming).

Dahl’s “superior” Fred Crisman later witnessed the bizarre material spewed along the beach, and briefly became witness to a craft similar to one of the six large donut-shaped aircraft that previously hovered over the bay.

Thomas describes increasingly mysterious events.   The day after the UFO event, Harold Dahl was approached by a man in a black suit driving a 1947 black sedan Buick who took Dahl to breakfast.  The man revealed quite a bit about Dahl.   He also made veiled threats about Dahl’s wellbeing.   “I did think it was rather fantastic how this gentleman happened to know what I had seen,” said Dahl.

Shortly following the Maury Island UFO incident, the famous Kenneth Arnold June 24, 1947 incident took place in the Cascade Mountains near Mount Rainer, Washington, when Arnold viewed nine delta-shaped aircraft “skipping” the mountain peaks about 1200 miles per hour[1].   Thomas tells us that the era was designed by reports of similar objects. Archie Edes of Wenatchee, Oregon also saw a UFO disperse “great shows of speaks and piles of flame” around June 27, 1947.

Although there was, as yet, no “official” Air Force investigation of the sightings in Washington, Arnold was soon contacted by Raymond A. Palmer at Ziff-Davis Publishing and Amazing Stories’ who offered Arnold $200 to investigate Dahl and Crisman’s story.

Because of the July 4th “wave of sightings,” however, General Carl “Ptooey” Spaatz dispatched two investigators, Captain William Lee Davidson and First Lieutenant Frank Mercer Brown of the Fourth Air Force A-2 Intelligence.   Spaatz began an investigation of the Northwestern UFOs at the Mc Chord Air Base, as well as Hamilton Field in California, to report UFO data to the Air Technical Intelligence Command at Wright Field in Ohio (commanded by General Nathan Twining at that time).

Arnold soon connected with David N. Johnson of the Idaho Statesman and United Airline pilot Emil Smith, both who had previous UFO experiences, as well as talking to officers Davidson and Brown. Johnson “advised Arnold to take on the Maury Island investigation and let his newspaper pick up the expenses.”   (JFK + UFO-Military: page 36.)   Smith joined Arnold in his investigation, interviewing Dahl and Crisman, other UFO witnesses, and inspection of the UFO debris.

Ted Morello of the United Press International began to get anonymous-informant-telephone-calls revealing intimate details of conversations with Dahl, Crisman and Smith.   Such reported eerie informant-interceptions happened several times, causing the investigators to search for “bugging devices” in their hotel room.

Brown and Davidson interviewed everyone about their findings.   Crisman provided the A-2 men with a box of the fragments[2].   The officers were suspicious of some of the elements in this case, but they “planned to finally make that trip to Maury Island with Crisman in the morning leaving this whole strange experience behind them.[3]

Unfortunately, and mysteriously, the episode took a macabre twist when the B-25 the two officers left in crashed on August 1, 1947 killing them both.   Brown’s widow mentioned her belief that he husband had been murdered[4].

Bizarre elements continued: A reporter for the Tacoma Times, Paul Lantz, who reported on the crash, died shortly following his news dispatch.   A farewell trip by Smith and Arnold to see Dhal at his previously visited home, found a suspiciously empty house:

“When they arrived, they found a house that ‘looked completely deserted and as if it had not been lived in for a month,’” says Thomas.   There was no furniture, only dust, dirt cobwebs, no Dahl, his secretary or her children to be found.   The two men had been there earlier in the morning when the house was occupied and normally lived-in.   (JFK + UFO-Military: p.p. 68, 65-66.)

Hanks likewise is amazed by certain mystic happenings in sightings of UFO craft.

“This is certainly a possibility, though there would need to be a hefty reason for using technology so advanced as that displayed by UFO craft for mere purposes of staging psychological experiments with humans,” says Hanks.   “Artificial intelligence, advanced bioengineering, anti-gravitational aircraft, and perhaps even time travel are all things that could account for various UFO technologies.   However, each of these possibilities is equally fastened to the idea of a coming technological Singularity just as well.” (The UFO Singularity: p.p. 65-66.)

Hanks prods the reader into a “human/alien” quest and prism where human-beings had begun inventions into aerial technology.   The Weldon Institute flight-enthusiasts hosted an 1889 demonstration of a dirigible-heavier-than-air-flying-machine as told in Jules Verne’s 1886 novel Robur-le-conguerant; these craft seem to have been actually manifested in the skies over Sacramento, California in November, 1896: a craft bobbed in the skies in a “falling leaf” pattern of descent.   There soon followed an “airship scare” with many reports from other parts of the country, some resembling a “huge egg” or “cigar” shape with rudders, paddle wheels, or even propellers.

Similar stories came from Australia in 1909. David Schwarz designed such a craft which flew at Tempelof near Berlin, Germany.   George de Bay demonstrated a saucer-like model in 1928 that “could skip through the air like a flat stone.”   (The UFO Singularity: p. 107.)

Hanks similarly talks about Nazi technology as discovered in diagrams they found at the end of World War II. Historian and researcher Joseph P. Farrell comments that Nazi “flying saucers” had been in the works by 1942[5].

“In truth, there may have been a number of secret private enterprises throughout the years, which might have contributed to reports of explainable and other worldly looking things in the skies,” says Hanks.   “Depending on the level of technological sophistication such ‘secret groups’ might have achieved, these could also contributed to a host of reports of strange unidentified flying objects seen as far back as prior to World War I.”   Hanks says that J. Allen Danelek had similar thoughts in his research on early aviation[6].

This is precisely where Fred L. Crisman enters history, not just as a UFO witness, but as a member of Special Internal Security of the OSS (Office of Strategic Services) and then transferred to the CIA as an “extended agent” in the State of Washington. Crisman trained at Fort Lewis, Washington, Fort Benning, Georgia, and Fort Sill, Oklahoma, the National Security Agency (NSA), and spent a considerable amount of time as a “disruption agent” at Boeing Company in Seattle.

Crisman also connected with earlier episodes of what publisher Ray Palmer called The Shaver Mystery, stories that  Palmer  latched onto (as written by Richard Sharpe Shaver) who told of a “diminutive race of beings” called “deros” (contraction of the words ‘detrimental’ and ‘robot’), who originally came from outer space many eons in the past to help create and organize life on earth, but became victims of Sun and other solar radiation “attracted” into their advanced mental machinery, causing disease, mental derangement and a kind of perpetual zombies of the Elder Race[7].

The Dero (usually living in subterranean caverns) sometimes were fought against by “not-so-deranged” ‘Tero’ and innocent surface dwellers[8].   The tales became a complex series of articles in Palmer’s Amazing Stories’ in the 1940s (and later in his Hidden World series in the 1960s).

One of those people who claimed connection to “The Hidden World” was Fred Lee Crisman, who wrote to Amazing Stories’ telling of his own encounters with “dero” in underground caverns in Myana Mar southeast of India, and Kashmir, near Jammu in Alaska, where Crisman claimed a companion name “Dick” lost his life.

Crisman gave a “prescient description” of a laser-like weapon that bored “a hole the size of a dime in (the) right bicep” of Crisman’s companion’s arm.   “‘It was seared inside,’” Thomas quoted Crisman, “‘how, we don’t know,’ no doubt, since lasers had not yet been developed.”

It was precisely at this point in 1947 that Crisman was seemingly interjected into UFO history[9].

Thomas also points out that these craft were the end-products of Nazi technology and their “flogdiskus.”   (JFK + UFO-Military: p. 81.)

“During World War II, for instance, he supposedly belonged to the Office of Strategic Service (OSS), a forerunner of the CIA, which according to UFO lore had a hand in transforming flying saucer technology from the Nazis after the war,’ says Thomas about Crisman, “and so, if there was anything to the connection, this may have been the origins involvement with Maury Island.”

Crisman’s numerous CIA comments and episodes since 1945 included Clay Shaw (who tried to call Crisman upon his arrest by Jim Garrison in the 1968 Kennedy assassination trial in New Orleans)[10], Shaw’s association with a fascist organization called Permindex, Shaw’s alliances with the Nazi/American Operation Paperclip, Guy Banister Association at 531 Lafayette in New Orleans (Banister associated with Lee Harvey Oswald in 1963, Watergaters Bernard Baker, E. Howard Hunt, David Ferrie [who, among other activities, was a gun-runner for the CIA’s Bay of Pigs], Robert Maheu as a consultant to billionaire-genius Howard Hughes (who planned murder plots against Fidel Castro), CIA operatives Thomas Beckham, Sergio Arcacha Smith, Louis Rabel, “The Octopus” suspect Michael Riconoscuito, Kerry Thornley, and various bizarre right-wing ‘old church’ evangelical sects, including The Minute Men and the Christian Sons of Liberty.

“To many, the world of transnational industrial espionage that Garrison saw as the back drop to the assassination is simply not real, despite its continuing presence in global politics,” says Thomas.  “Conmen, industrial spies and low-level disinformationists abound in this environment and one testament to the veracity of Crisman’s entanglement is the durability of his influence upon it.[11]”   (JFK + UFO-Military: p. 115.)

Here Hanks presents the philosophical and cogent theories of Martin Cannon as espoused in Cannon’s “The Controllers: A New Hypothesis of Alien Abductions” which allude to powerful and clandestine agencies working in consort to manipulate the beliefs and actions of society at large[12].  Dr. Leon Davidson was another scientist that felt the UFO Mystery was actually a CIA invention[13].

“Although the above circumstances being related have to do with the potentials for such technology being harnessed by covert agencies, there are other ways that advances in the sciences might be used to control or manipulate an individual,” says Hanks.   “…military interests aren’t always the only medium through which the advancement of secret technology can occur…taking place as a result of private interests and largely away from public agencies, we can see that it would no doubt remain clandestine.”   (The UFO Singularity: p.p. 171-172.)

Hanks slowly outlines the steps in which the origin of such phenomena may have already taken place in our present and future reality as “Transhumanism” heading for the ultimate “Singularity.”   Hanks quotes Russian Transhumanist, Alexei Turchin, on how “super technologies” could presently be playing with humanity:

“I refer the idea that UFOs are connected with the quantum nature of our world; they are like schrodinger’s cat, which could exist only under conditions of low concentration of the attention of its observers…this could explain why many attempts at taking UFO photos seem to fail or end up looking like hoaxes.   It could also explain how they are connected with our unconscious mind.”   (The UFO Singularity: p. 210.)

Scientist Nigel Kerner warned on January 14, 2012 to Hanks that humanity may have been set-up as “lab rats” kept alive “for mere purposes of control__and a control system that ultimately plans for their demise…an agenda, a hidden agenda that is not for benefit.”   (The UFO Singularity: page 217.)

Such glimpses into Palmer’s “Hidden World”  (JFK + UFO-Military: page 39[14]) may have been found in Thomas’ portrayal of Fred Crisman as one of the three hoboes arrested on the day of John Kennedy’s murder.   Such mentions suggest a strong synchronicity in a Jungian sense, at least[15].

Mysterious papers called the Torbitt Document, had been authored by David Copeland, and told of how Crisman had ties to both Kennedy-suspect-groups, the Division Five of the FBI and the Defense Industrial Security Command.   It also said that Crisman had been at the Dallas site on November 22, 1863.

The Torbitt Document tells of a John Howard Bowen (alias Alexander Osborne) who was accompanied by a ‘second’ fictitious John Howard Bowen who was, in fact, a “Fred Chrismon, [sic] another agent for the munitions makers Police Agency Defense Industrial Security Command. Chrismon also posed as a missionary and used other aliases.   Among the cognomens for Chrismon were Fred Lee, Jon Gould and Jon Gold.”

In his November 21, 1968 subpoena of “Fred Lee Chrismon,” Garrison listed Crisman as engaged in the undercover activity for the “industrial warfare complex” and having “persons involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.”  (JFK + UFO-Military: p. 79.) The Midlothian Mirror reflects on the photo of the “tramps” as showing a “co-director of the

Mexican-based assassins, John H. Bowen, alias Fred Chrismon, alias Jon Gold, and Thomas Beckham…[16]

The tramps were also identified as Harold Doyle (pronounced ‘Dahl,’ as in Maury Island), John Gedney and Gus Abrams; said also to be Chauncey Marvin Holt[17], Charles Harrelson and Charles Rogers. John Forrester Gedney was also identified as Edward Lansdale.

(“The figure who has come under close scrutiny by some conspiracists is the late Major General Edward Lansdale, U.S. Air Force. Lansdale is undoubtedly the unnamed ‘General Y’ in Oliver Stone’s movie ‘JFK.’[18]   Lansdale was a special operations officer with links to the CIA.   His professional patron was CIA director Allen Dulles.  The character of the shady political manipulator, Colonel Hillindale, in the famous novel THE UGLY AMERICAN, was based on Lansdale’s activities in the Philippines in the early 1950s, where his operations reportedly included torture and political assassination [37:25].   In Vietnam, during the Eisenhower administration, Lansdale managed several ruthless internal security programs for South Vietnam’s corrupt and oppressive dictator, Ngo Dinh Diem.   These programs later developed into the CIA’s infamous Phoenix program, which was responsible for the execution of over 20,000 Vietnamese and for the death and torture of countless civilians [37; 43:79-80; 7:40].).”    (Pages quoted are supposedly from The Ugly American and Griffith.)

A thorough and intimate examination of Thomas’ works will reveal an assortment of trails into the Kennedy assassination and the UFO Mystery.   In an interview with Mike Sylwester on August 4, 1993, Fred Crisman, Jr., said that his father, Fred Lee Crisman, probably worked for the CIA. Crisman, Jr., said, according to Sylwester and Thomas, that “his father believed in a conspiracy between the CIA and the Mafia to kill JFK and once remarked that Dealey Plaza had been landscaped in preparation for the assassination.”[19]   (JFK + UFO-Military: pages 253, 259.)

Thomas had often worked with and also co-authored a book with the late Jim Keith (The Octopus: Secret Government and the Death of Danny Casolaro, Feral House Publishing,  1996, 2004), and Thomas likewise seems to share Keith’s “dharma combatant” view that “the world is far more multidimensional” than the “pablum” given out by the media.  In fact, says Thomas, it could be downright “dangerous.”

Thomas wrote the Introduction  to Keith’s book, wherein Keith told of some personal experiences (revised in WordPress, October 2016):

“(A Process of Decoding) Regardless of our experience or research, we seem no closer to finding an answer to the puzzle of the UFOs.   These strange craft and their equally strange occupants behave in a manner that seems to contradict physics and logic, appearing and disappearing seemingly at will, dropping curious objects and artifacts (including potatoes and pancakes), mutilating cattle, abducting people and leaving cryptic messages embedded in the brains of their awe-stricken contactees,” said Keith in a 2004 Saucers of The Illuminati.   “These activities, these odd messages seem only to compound our confusion as to who these interlopers on ‘our’ cosmic turf are and what their motives might be.”

Keith described some encounters as angelic (the Space Brothers), often giving out warnings about impending doom, while others are not so benign.   Some witnesses claim to have been abducted against their will and even implanted with electronic brain devices for monitoring.

“Analyzing the conflicting signals that we have received about the nature of these visitors,” Keith went on to say, “it is almost as if we are purposely being misled and befuddled by these mysterious agents, purposely being deceived about the motives behind these visitations, and perhaps even directed in some mysterious transformative operation of which we are not aware.”

Keith’s own UFO encounter happened in 1972 in the Los Angeles suburb of Upland, when he encountered an archetypal grey alien staring in his face from a distance of about one foot.   He leapt out of bed and raced into the living room.   When he returned to his bedroom, the visitor was nowhere to be found.   Keith questioned the experience as a “cross-dimensional” defiance of dream and reality, and said he has never had an experience like that since.   He compared the episode to happenings in Whitley Strieber’s bestselling book Communion[20].

Much like Hanks’ theories, Keith left many possibilities open, including hoax by UFO buffs and American Intelligence agencies in a ruse to conceal mind control operations described in several tomes (such as those of Martin Cannon), he leaves the “latch string” out for other possibilities.   “One intriguing possibility is that the incident in Upland was one of beamed electronic mind control of the sort I have described in a number of my books,” continued Keith.

“The house where the incident took place was a large hippie/radical commune where any number of anti-Establishment pipe-dreams were hatched.   The strange motley of activists in Technicolor dream coats that came and went from the place at all hours no doubt drew the attention of those who monitor such things.

“And so it occurred to me:   Was I zapped electronically with the image of an alien?    Was it just a byproduct of the chromatic chromosomes so prevalent at the time?   I will probably never know.    What I do know is that there are depths to the UFO enigma that are not plumbed by most researchers in the field, Horatio.”

An examination of Hanks’ works will likewise reveal a multiplicity of explanations for  “strange phenomena and odd occurrences” ranging from “breakaway civilizations” to “independent private operations” to “trans human inventions” and reaching for the “Singularity” in which “a point where our own technological capabilities will become so advanced that they begin to mirror that of other intelligences in our universe, some of which may already be in our midst, though partially obscured by the limitations of human perception.”    (The UFO Singularity: p. 254.)

Hanks quotes Martin Cannon from Cannon’s The Controllers to likewise highlight a crucial point:    “A mind is a terrible thing to waste___ and a worse thing to commandeer.”

Among the multiple cryptic mentions of Fred L. Crisman, one mention as Danger Man seems most adequate; it is typified in Johnny River’s ballad from that period: Kenn Thomas chronicles the archetypal appearances of Danger Man in the 1960s television programs of Secret Agent, The Prisoner, and The Invaders, as exemplified in Johnny Rivers song Secret Agent Man.

Secret Agent Man

There’s a man who leads a life of danger

To everyone he meets he stays a stranger —

With every move he makes, another chance he takes —

Odds are he won’t live to see tomorrow —

Secret agent man, secret agent man —

They’ve given you a number and taken away your name

Beware of pretty faces that you find —

A pretty face can hide an evil mind —

Ah, be careful what you say, or you’ll give yourself away —

Odds are you won’t live to see tomorrow —

Secret agent man, secret agent man —

They’ve given you a number and taken away your name.

(Secret Agent Man” is a song written by P. F. Sloan and Steve Barri.   The most famous recording of the song was made by Johnny Rivers for the opening titles of the American broadcast of the British spy series Danger Man, which aired in the U.S. as Secret Agent from 1964 to 1966.   The song itself peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.)

[1]   On June 24, 1947, the civilian pilot Kenneth Arnold reported seeing nine objects, glowing bright blue-white, flying in a “V” formation over Washington’s Mount Rainier.      He estimated the objects’ flight speed at 1700 mph and compared their motion to “a saucer if you skip it across water.” (In newspaper reports of Arnold’s sighting, this description was mistakenly taken to mean that the objects were shaped like saucers, leading to the popularization of the term “flying saucer” as a synonym for UFO.)   Though Arnold said he initially thought what he had seen were test flights of military aircraft, the military later said they had been conducting no test flights during the time of the incident.  A prospector on Mt. Adams saw the objects at around the same time as Arnold, bolstering his story.

[2]   The late John Keel highlighted the Maury Island debris in his book Operation Trojan Horse (page 174):   “The flying saucers have been spewing all kinds of trash all over the landscape. … We can start with the slag dumped from the sky during the Maury Island, Washington ‘hoax’ of 1947.   Analysis of this material showed it to be composed of calcium, aluminum, silicon, iron, zinc and other mundane elements.   Heaps of this stuff has turned up since in New Hampshire, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and many other places following UFO sightings.   It has often been found on hilltops and deep in trackless forests, places where it had to be dumped from the air. And it was found in Sweden in 1946.”

Some of the debris that Crisman spoke of, and was mentioned in Ray Palmer and Kenneth Arnold’s The Coming of the Saucers (1952), was still in their possession.   Ray Palmer’s metallurgical analysis of the ‘real stuff’  found the material to be of high calcium, Iron, zinc and titanium content, with lesser traces of aluminum, manganese, copper, silicon, nickel, strontium, chromium, tin and cadmium.   The book noted that titanium is used in missiles and space ships and that calcium has the affinity to capture radium and prevent contamination.

[3]    Edward J. Ruppelt, in his book on his association with UFO investigation, sloughed-off the case as a hoax, despite the actual evidence:   “He famously got many of the details wrong and deliberately obscured names of the principal players.”   (JFK + Military: p. 67.) Research Ron Halbritter, May 27, 1997, quoted Ray Palmer as saying “Ruppelt hadn’t done his research.” (JFK + Military: p.p. 245-246.)

[4]   The widow of Officer Brown suggested that he was murdered: “Frank Brown’s widow did in fact state her conviction that her husband was murdered. In addition to this, a particularly persistent reporter into the Maury Island episode died shortly after the investigation…”

News accounts of the crash and statements by Army officials hinted that sabotage had brought down the B-25 on which Davidson and Brown were flying. Brown’s wife Velma also spelled out her suspicions in a letter to Arnold. “I have never thought that Frank’s death was an accident,” she wrote.

[6]    Phantoms of the Skies: The Lost History of Aviation from Antiquity to the Wright Brothers, Paperback – 15 Sep 2011 by J.Allan Danelek (Author), Chuck Davis (Author):

“It has been traditional to teach school children that Christopher Columbus discovered America, that Charles Lindbergh was the first man to fly across the Atlantic and that the Wright Brothers invented the airplane. Time has since taught us that the first Europeans to touch foot on the continent of North America were the Vikings and that Lindbergh was the 85th man to cross the Atlantic by air. Would it be any more remarkable to learn, then, that the Wright Brothers’ brief flight in December of 1903 may not have been the first successful flight of a manned, heavier-than-air powered machine? This book tells the true story of aviation as it evolved from mankind’s first primitive attempts to fly to the remarkable successes of the early twentieth century in a non-technical and fun way, designed to impress upon the reader that the history of aviation is richer and more remarkable than they ever imagined.”
[7]   Shaver’s world:   If the Deros looked goofy, however, their activities were anything but. Deros use their ancient technology to control, or “tamper with”, the minds of surface dwellers. (Shaver hinted that many members of the world’s wealthy and powerful elite had been replaced by Dero-controlled doubles.) The Deros also abduct thousands of surface-dwellers on an annual basis, and subject them to the most depraved and excruciating torture imaginable. Deros enjoyed disassembling their victims, and keeping them conscious for months as living vivisections. Women were turned, by means of “sex stim”, into living furniture, while others were given “growth stimulation focused on breasts till they got enormous and gave milk like a cow which they use for a beverage.”
[8] The Tero:   In addition to the dero, the Cavern World harbors small, hunted groups of tero (integrative ro), Elder descendants who, for reasons never adequately explained, have not succumbed to detrimental radiation. These tero are locked in ceaseless combat with the dero, and some befriended Shaver: “Right under my feet men die on racks because the dero…have caught them trying to help protect Shaver.”

“The dero and tero populations of the caverns are dwarfed by a mass of human slaves as well as tribes of depraved freebooters who have drifted down from the surface world during various eras. While not as luridly evil as the dero, these too are a pretty loathsome crowd, vicious gangsters who slave and smuggle in alliance with topside criminals. Each major city apparently has its subsurface equivalent inhabited by these thugs, and many a ‘runaway’ gets sold down the shaft.”

[9]   “The Octopus” conspirator Michael Riconosciuto was aware of 1947 secret aircraft experiments at Boeing Aircraft and told Kenn Thomas on February 10, 1996 that Fred Crisman and Mary Catrinia Johnson at Boeing were involved in  some kind  of radioactive experiment:   “…was a reactor of some sort on board this aircraft, it was an advanced radar platform of some sort.”   (JFK + Military: p. 256.)

[10]   According to the award-winning investigative journalist, Anthony L. Kimery:

“Documents surfaced in 1977 showing that Shaw had worked for the CIA since 1949. He had also been in business with former Nazis and European fascists involved in several CIA-supported covert operations throughout Europe, and there is strong evidence he had been a member of the OSS; he certainly had worked for a top OSS officer who was involved in Operation Paperclip.

“But did Crisman know Shaw from those days? It’s possible. Crisman is said to have been attached to the OSS. Intelligence sources say he was a member of a secret fraternity of former intelligence officials.  Other sources swear he was involved in gunrunning and was closely tied to organized crime–two factions which certainly worked hand-in-glove at the time.

“According to Garrison’s information, Crisman knew Shaw well. One of Garrison’s informants said Crisman was ‘the first man Clay called after being told he was in trouble.’ The same source added that Crisman ‘flies to New Orleans steadily: 1964, eleven times; 1965, 17 times; 1966, 32 times; 1967, 24 times . . . he seems to have no income and certainly spends a large sum of money on air travel.’”

[11]   “In Joan Mellen’s book A Farewell to Justice, Fred Crisman had been identified as one of the hundreds of ‘spooks’ working secretly for the Intelligence community.   In her voluminous research on the history of Jim Garrison and the Kennedy assassination, Mellen discovered that Crisman had association with the Offutt Air Force Base and worked with the United States Army Air Defense Command.  A FOIA request of September 13, 1969 revealed Crisman as Agent 4250.  A comment appeared: ‘…a man that is dangerous to the future of America.’”

[12]   Cannon studied the story of Rex Niles and his sister in what Cannon suspects was a “psychoelectronics” harassment experiment that seems to follow the characteristics of “abductee accounts.” Niles was cooperating in the investigation of his Woodland Hills firm until mysterious helicopters began to circle their home.   The atmosphere outside their home measured 250 watts of microwaves, and a radioactive disk was found under his automobile dashboard.   When Niles stepped near Lyn Silverman’s home computer, it also went crazy.   All these ingrediants can be found in UFO abduction cases, including the shutting off of televisions and stereos.

“But the radioactive disk is especially intriguing. As former FBI agent Ted Gunderson recently explained to my associate Alexander Constantine, magnetic radioactive disks have long been used by the clandestine services as cancer-inducing ‘silent killers’ – i.e., as tools of assassination,” said Cannon.   “Not only that. The disc calls to mind one little-remembered detail of the Hill case – the dozen-or-so circular ‘shiny spots,’ each the size of a silver dollar, found on the trunk of her car directly after the abduction.”

[13]   Dr. Leon Davidson was one of the earliest scientists that suspected CIA involvement in hoaxing UFOs. “I contend that since 1951, the CIA has caused or sponsored saucer sightings for its own purposes. By shrewd psychological manipulation, a series of ‘normal’ events has been served up so as to appear as quite convincing evidence of extraterrestrial UFOs. Some of this ‘normal’ activity includes military use of ECM on a classified basic unknown to the radar observers who were involved, leading to the Radar reports discussed in this article…”

[14]   (Doug Skinner is a Fortean writer/artist/ and Off-Broadway [with Bill Irwin] performer in The Amazing Stories of Richard Shaver.)   “Our Own Worst Enemies: There’s a hidden message in Shaver’s work, one that’s often overlooked by both enthusiasts and detractors. Quite simply: We are the dero.

“To Shaver, we have virtually unlimited potential. Within us is a huge untapped capacity for wisdom, strength, vitality, and beauty.   We could be like gods. Instead, we’re a stunted, perverted bunch: we kill one another, poison our planet, and stultify ourselves with mindless jobs, cut down forests to put up ugly boxlike cities, vilify intelligence, and condemn sexuality.   We think backwards and embrace everything that’s vile, nasty, and foolish.

“Shaver may have been overly optimistic about our capabilities, but he did have a point.  We can do better.   And if it takes a Shaver revival to get that into our little dero heads, we might as well have one.”

[15]   “Jung’s concept of synchronicity is complicated and poorly defined, but can be boiled down to describing ‘meaningful coincidences.’   The concept of synchronicity came to Jung during a period of mental illness in the early 1900s.   Jung became convinced that everything in the universe is intimately connected, and that suggested to him that there must exist a collective unconscious of humankind.   This implied to him that events happening all over the world at the same time must be connected in some unknown way.”

[16]   Investigators, such as Steve Thomas, suggested multiple Jungian-style synchronistic connections with the backgrounds of the tramps, their changing names, family history, and possible CIA and espionage backgrounds.    John Forrester Gedney was one of the tramps, yet suspected to have prior ‘spook’ background:

Steve Thomas went further in saying: “This was posted on a blog called Cannonfire (by someone named Joseph on August 17, 2007 concerning a man named Larry Kolb:

“(The blog by Joseph contains some errors, but the thrust of the article is intriguing) Having made rather too many enemies in the clandestine world, Kolbe finds himself in a safe house in Florida.   He spends a number of pages indicating that this small town functions as a sort of retirement village for spooks.   (In much the same way, old carnies would retire to Gibtown, also in Florida.)   Faded spies are everywhere. Even the guy who bags his groceries is an old KGB defector — literally a bag-man.

“And guess who else happens to live in Spook Central?

“There was also John Forrester Gedney. Mr. Gedney retired recently after more than twenty years as a code inspector, inspecting houses, like mine, for compliance with building codes.   You may have heard his name in the movie J.F.K., or read it in a book. For, as Mr. Gedney announced, and proved, last year [2003], he was one of the three railway tramps arrested behind the grassy knoll in Dallas on November 22, 1963.   He was the tall one in the grainy, mysterious photograph used so often by conspiracy theorists as evidence that the CIA and other dark forces were behind the assassination of our president.”

[18]   Government agent Robert D. Morrow speculated in that the main emphasis should be on Lansdale (Posted 25 July 2010 – 08:45 AM): “My GUESS is the three tramps were folks who had no involvement in the JFK assassination.   However, I do think the identification of Edward Lansdale by Col. Fletcher Prouty and Gen. Victor Krulak is extremely important.   Skim down and read the letter by Gen. Krulak identifying Ed Lansdale as on the sidewalk just 5 feet west of the Texas School Book Depository.

“Major General Edward Lansdale was probably in operational charge of the assassination in Dallas.   JFK did not make him ambassador to Vietnam in 1961, which Lansdale coveted.  JFK did make Lansdale the Head of Operation Mongoose which was filled to the brim with CIA and anti-Castro Cubans who hated JFK as much as they hated Fidel Castro.   Here is a photo of Lansdale taken on the sidewalk in front of and just a few feet west of the Texas School Book Depository: !

“Prouty gives his insights:

“Here is a Lansdale bio: http://www.spartacus…OLDlansdale.htm

“Also, Wikipedia on Lansdale: http://en.wikipedia….Edward_Lansdale

“Forget the 3 tramps, the identification of Lansdale by Fletcher Prouty and General Krulak is the jewel in that photo! Edward Lansdale had a rectangular head:…l=&oq=&gs_rfai=

“Here is a 3/14/85 letter by Gen. Victor H. Krulak also identifying Edward Lansdale at the TSBD on 11/22/63: http://www.ratical.c…K/USO/appD.html.  Edward Lansdale, the CIA’s assassinations expert, – his presence in Dallas indicts the CIA.”

(Despite Morrows skepticism of the three tramps as having no importance, investigation reveals on-going connections between the tramps and the Intelligence community:

[19]   Steve Erdmann: “I believe there was a lot of multiplicity involved in the assassination so as to make the reality of whom and what was involved untraceable and to deliberately muddy the waters and cover up the reality of the facts.   Different ‘hit teams’ were involved—all unbeknownst to each other, perhaps on an individual bases as well, and all with a private agenda coordinated to happen at a precise time.   Eight to ten shots have been postulated by experts.   There was a wide-range of decoys and fall guys in line for use and exploited.    A whole rift of cover-up followed alongside.”

[20]   “Communion: A True Story is a book by American ufologist and horror author Whitley Strieber that was first published in February 1987.   The book is based on the claims of Whitley Strieber, who experiences ‘lost time’ and terrifying flashbacks, which hypnosis undertaken by Budd Hopkins later links to an alleged encounter with aliens.   The book was later made into a film directed by Philippe Mora and starring Christopher Walken as Strieber and Lindsay Crouse as his wife, Anne.”

Judyth Vary Baker knew David Ferrie as a man of many faces: legal advisor for New Orleans Mafia Don, Carlos Marcello, aircraft pilot for several Mafia families, CIA asset, defrocked priest, anti-Castro adventurer, seducer of men and teenage boys, participant in an anti-Castro bioweapon plot, and a key to the JFK assassination.

“The Coup d’ Etat in 1963 took control of an inconvenient two-party system to run its self-protecting corporate agenda, with the CIA, FBI, banking interests and the military-industrial complex cooperating,” says Baker. “And when the Supreme Court recently ruled that corporations could, in essence, buy any and all political candidates through ‘donation,’ with no limit on what could be spent to influence votes, the American government became a prostitute whose services were purchased by the highest bidders.”

(DAVID FERRIE: Mafia Pilot, participant in anti-Castro Bioweapon Plot, Friend of Lee Harvey Oswald and the Key to the JFK Assassination, Judyth Vary Baker, TrineDay LLC, P.O. Box 577, Walterville, Oregon 97489, 1-800-556-2012,,, 2014, 521 pages, $24.95.)

David Ferrie’s connections to the Military-Industrial-Complex began in early 1962 when he became involved in the New Orleans Civil Air Patrol. There, Ferrie began instructing cadets, often in summer encampments at the air force bases.

Ferrie became a CAP commander in 1953. Lee Harvey Oswald enrolled as a CAP cadet on July 27, 1955 (serial No. 084965).

Oswald attended meetings at Moisant CAP Squadron, Lakefront and Abita Spring, Louisiana.

Eddie Voebel, a friend of Oswald, said that Oswald “had been a cadet in Ferrie’s CAP squadron in 1955 and that he recalled Oswald attended a party at Ferrie’s then-home at 209 Vinet Street.”

Researcher Lee Farley mentioned that David Ferrie was instrumental in “grooming” Oswald and his consequential enlistment in the United States Marines. Ferrie told the local Marine Corps that Oswald would be good in the CIA because “he could keep his mouth shut.” (p. 73.)

In 1953, David Ferrie developed an interest in philosophy and took a course at Tulane. Doctor Bob Heath had 120 psychiatric patients that used subcortical electrode stimulation at his clinic. Heath conducted experiments at East Louisiana State Hospital at Jackson, along with associates from Tulane University. One of the fascinating persons who would drop by to visit was David Ferrie. In 1954, Ferrie began studying for a doctorate in psychology from the University of Phoenix (a university of “low esteem,” says Baker).

Ferrie spoke of the bringing “patients” to Heath’s office and, also, flying “sensitive” psychiatric data between Tulane’s psychology department and other hospitals and departments. CIA agents approached Heath to conduct human and animal tests of bulbocapnine. The 1957 Inspector General Report said that “the knowledge that the agency is engaging in unethical and illicit activities would have serious repercussions in political and diplomatic circles.” The U.S Army funded a Tulane Electrical Brain stimulation program conducted by Dr. Robert Heath, and (according to Australian psychiatrist, Dr. Harry Bailey) used blacks because “they were everywhere and cheap experimental animals.”

In June-July, 1967, Ferrie wrote a thesis for his PhD in psychology about hypnotherapy and received his PhD in psychology.

Baker says that Ferrie definitely was involved in a matrix of activities including his Civil Air Patrol activities, his job as a pilot at Eastern Airlines, pilot for Mobster Carlos Marcello’s lawyers (and flying to Guatemala for Marcello), and, according to Victor Marchetti, “had in fact been employed by the CIA.” (Marchetti was Deputy Assistant to the CIA Director Richard Helms, p. 82.)

David Ferrie’s Civil Air Patrol experience was what made him important to Jim Garrison’s investigation of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. Lee Harvey Oswald joined Ferrie’s squadron at Moisant Airport in 1955. (Eastern Airlines archive)

Ferrie was additionally connected into the CIA’s MKULTRA (mind control) program through Doctor Bob Heath, but, additionally Dr. Alton Ochsner (one-time friend of Office of Strategic Services [OSS] Chief “Wild Bill” Donovan), and Dr. Mary Sherman (researcher into cancer). Ferrie met Dr. Oschsner through Dr. Sherman, both cleared for work on a “Sensitive Position.” (p. 97.) Baker later learns that it is referred to as “The Project”: A cancer experiment, spear-headed by Oschsner, to develop a cancer serum as a bioweapon to be used against Fidel Castro.

Ferrie article Baker Ochsner may4ochsnerschiro

Dr. Alton Oschsner in Middle of Photo

In order to convince Baker of the reality of the Project, as government sponsored, she is introduced to a gruff detective and FBI/CIA asset, Guy Banister, who speaks at length of his clandestine contacts:

“Ferrie’s project was legitimate. Even the CIA was backing it, along with the city’s crime boss, Carlos Marcello,” says Baker. “Banister was quite serious.”

Banister’s Agency was involved, not only with Mary Sherman’s bioweapon project, but also the CIA, crime boss Carlos Marcello (because of the Intelligence alliances), and a spy ring against Castro and Communist activities (Banister was a former FBI agent [briefly, at his height in the Chicago FBI]). Banister continued to gather evidence against the corrupt New Orleans Police Department.

“When Dr. Sherman shows me a powerful new cancer developed over the past year, I am stunned by its vigor,” says Baker about 1963. “I agree to do what I can to stabilize the cancer and help transform it from a mouse cancer to one that will attack human tissues, only later will I realize that the cancer could be stolen and used to silence political enemies ‘forever.’”

(Judyth Baker’s early career into cancer research and her connection with Dr. Alton Ochsner was amply illustrated in her book Me & Lee: How I Came to Know, Love and Lose Lee Harvey Oswald, TrineDay Publishers, 2010.)

Ferrie Article Baker Judythinlabwithmouse1

New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison summarized an understanding about the “anti-Castro” Radical right situation, stated in Garrison’s November 22, 1963 Playboy Magazine interview: members of the paramilitary right, anti-Castro exiles, were extremely worried about Jack Kennedy’s policy of détente succeeding.

The CIA was involved in much of this intrigue in a “mixed bag” of Minutemen, Cuban exiles, other anti-Castro “adventurers” training for a “foray” into Cuba. Along with an assassination attempt on Fidel Castro—there was also the bioweapon Project of Mary Sherman. “David Ferrie, who operated on the ‘command’ level of the ultra-rightists, was deeply involved in this effort,” says Baker. (p. 224.)

One of the earlier choices by Banister for someone to be Ferrie’s laboratory assistant was Michael Riconosciuto, “a young genius in electronics, biochemistry, chemistry and computers…” (For further information about Riconosciuto place in the espionage web, see The Octopus from Hell, Parts I and II,

Riconosciuto may have aided Banister in various “bugging” operations, such as placing devices in Clay Shaw’s house in the summer of 1963; Riconosciuto was adept at installing “bugging devices” and electronic surveillance equipment.

Baker lists witnesses that saw Banister and Ferrie, such as Vernon Gerdes, Dr. Michael Kurtz, George Higgenbotham, Rick Bauer, William Gaudet, and Sergio Arcacha Smith (pp. 240-242). “And, of course, Lee Harvey Oswald,” adds Baker.

Baker was concerned for the rapid expansion of the Ochsner-Sherman project. About August 1, 1963, Baker says: “…deep-freezing this new backup material suggests that we aren’t developing this biological weapon just for Castro. We are about to make this cancer truly immortal…the city is a hot bed of Cold War operations of all kinds. The Project has required massive funding. Only one entity could afford everything happening here in New Orleans.” (pp. 245-246.)

One of the bits of evidence of Oswald’s participation into the CIA’s various escapades was the “training film” of anti-Castro infantry near Bedico Creek near Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana in early September 1963. The film was seen by several people such as Robert K. “Bob” Tanenbaum of the House Select Committee on Assassination (HSCA), researchers Larry Hancock and Dick Russell, and Banister associate Delphine Roberts. Baker tells Erdmann, she also saw the film. The film showed, according to Tanenbaum, Antonio Veciana of Alpha 66, Guy Banister, David Atlee Phillips, Lee Oswald and David Ferrie (pp. 253, 264).

Baker spreads a trail of incidents and witnesses showing that Oswald, Ferrie, the CIA, FBI, and the Mob were intricately connected; we can only highlight a few points, but the reader is welcome to search out the further connections in the book.

An FBI informant, Joe Hauser, in his assisting FBI wiretaps of Mobster Marcello’s phone (161 reels of tape), told Author John H. Davis that agent Hauser “personally knew Oswald.” (p. 265.) Another witness was FBI agent Warren DeBrueys (pp. 266-267). Orest Pena also said he saw Oswald with local chief Warren DeBrueys in August, 1963 (p. 269).

Baker speaks about prisoners from the Angola prison who were often used for “secret research” in a special Tulane University Research Unit at the East Louisiana State Hospital in Jackson. “These experiments were supported by a grant from the Commonwealth Fund,” says Baker, “later identified as a CIA front.” (Comparative Effects of the Administration of Taraxein, d-LSD, Mescaline, and Psilocybin to Human Volunteers [Heath, Silva].) If the patients survived, they are sent directly to the “zombie colonies” at Jackson State Hospital where “they wait to die and are buried in the Jackson graveyard so that security can be maintained and the truth about what was done to them completely covered.” William Livesay, a prisoner at Angola, told Baker about his experiences with these experiments (p. 275).

According to Baker, Lee Oswald was selected to make a trip to Mexico City to transport the biologically engineered materials that would eventually kill Castro of “natural causes,” which would actually be “lung cancer.” Prior to this venture, Oswald and Baker would continue to do blood tests at Jackson State Hospital.

The following are multiple tidbits that tend (in the opinion of Judyth Baker and others) to support Baker’s Ferrie/Oswald scenario:

___Texas Theater Manager Butch Burroughs said that he sold Lee Oswald popcorn in the Texas Theater at the time officer Tippit was shot.

___David Ferrie carried with him a file, which Author Joan Mellon said Ferrie referred to as “the Bomb,” along with a diagram in a “file,1963” portraying an automobile in an aerial view of Dealey Plaza…” (HSCA report of January 11, 1978). (p. 321.)

___An “Abort Team” was mentioned by Lee Oswald and William “Tosh” Plumlee (CIA contract pilot), and mentioned to author Jim Marrs.

___The infamous November 21, 1963 “party” at the oil baron Clint Murchison mansion in Dallas, Texas consisting of Richard Nixon, J. Edgar Hoover, H.L. Livingstone confirmed Madeline Brown’s story (LBJ”s mistress), and wrote on September 3, 2014: “The party happened.” (pp. 330, 331, 334.)

___The famous “Altgens photo” showed that when the first shot was heard, secret service agents did not look up at the 6th floor of the Book Depository but, rather, they looked ahead, or at the Dal-Tex building. “It is important that the photograph shows no agent looking up,” Baker said to Erdmann.

___James T. Tague was standing near the triple underpass and hit on the cheek by a piece of street curb struck by one of the assassin’s bullets, possibly from the Dal-Tex building, not the Book Depository.

___The photos of Lee Oswald showing raised handcuffed wrists were his gesture to show newsmen that, to answer their questions, he was indeed handcuffed: It was not a “Communist salute.”

___Attorney Dean Andrews confessed that Oswald was just “a patsy,” adding: “I like to live. If they can get the President, they can crush me like a bug” (December 29, 1963). (p. 373.)

___Near the end of March, 1964, Betty Rubio, while working at the Lakefront Airport, saw Ferrie get out of a plane__talk to Rubio__and then go back to the plane and meet Clay Shaw. They talked for a while and then separated.

___Guy Banister is found naked and dead on June 6, 1964 from an alleged “heart attack.” His wife, Delphine Roberts, said that it was murder, but “it was made to look like a natural death.” “Anna Lewis said in a 2000 videotape: “He had a bullet in him, but they said it was a heart attack.”

___On or near July 11, 1965, David Ferrie was associated in flying individuals to Freemason Island. Matt Milligan of Trans-Gulf Seaplane Service identified photos of Andrew Blackmon and Clay Shaw.

According to Earl Ruby in HSCA testimony, and writer Greg Parker, Jack Ruby’s “cancer” was possibly “artificially induced.”  Dr. Louis Jolyon “Jolly” West: Baker outlines that Dr. Louis Jolyon West had been cleared at Top Secret for his work on MKULTRA.  “CIA documents show that grants were given to Dr. West for studies,” says Baker, “entitled, ‘Psychophysiological Studies of Hypnosis and Suggestibility’ and ‘Studies of Dissociative States.’’’  West had examined Jack Ruby in his jail cell (p. 387).

(Also see, Colin Ross MD: “One such example that Ross writes about is Dr. Louis Jolyon West. While Dr. West’s curriculum vitae doesn’t mention that he received Top Secret clearance from the CIA as the contractor on MKULTRA Subproject 43, CIA documents show that grants were given to Dr. West for studies entitled, Psychophysiological Studies of Hypnosis and Suggestibility and Studies of Dissociative States.”

David Ferrie had worked as a pilot for Al Crouch’s Saturn Aviation and flight school in November, 1966. Ferrie was fired on February 7, 1967, and would have been the pilot for a cross-country flight, but Crouch asked another pilot, “Bob,” instead.

Bob’s wife, J.G, spoke coincidentally to Baker sometime in 2013 about the crash of the 7th of 1967 in Slidell. According to J.G, Ferrie was fired “because Crouch was scared to death.” Crouch needed a pilot right away and J.G’s husband was selected. The crash was blamed on pilot error for not properly fueling the plane, but “Bob” had a receipt that proved he had refueled.

“From his unique perspective, Bob, trapped as he was in the plane,” says Baker, “could see that the fuel tank had been punctured.” (pp. 393-394.)

David Ferrie, at times, says Baker, suffered mentally for his guilt over his bisexuality (and the fact that it prevented him from becoming a priest); sometimes Ferrie would torture and whip himself (pages 255-260). The image that came to mind to this writer, was the semblance to the fictional Opus Dei character (the albino) Silas or Simon, in Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, who would whip himself mercilessly.

Ferrie began his last days by hiding out in the Airport’s pilots’ lounge and rest-overnight area, from about February 8 to 16, 1967.

Student Bruce Nolan said of Ferrie: “One day in early 1967, I arrived for a lesson and found Ferries limped over a desk, crippled by a blazing headache. He could not fly. He could barely open one eye. I shoveled him into my car. He asked to be taken to his home on Louisiana Avenue Parkway. I got him to the porch and watched him scuffle inside.” (Nolan never saw him again).

The news media, at that time, was busy covering Jim Garrison’s investigation along with an occasional story written about Ferrie. In an interview with Garrison investigators on February 18, 1967, Ferrie voiced great skepticism of the single-bullet theory.

The famed group photo of Lee Oswald with his CAP squadron in 1967 was “no longer on display on the living room wall, along with other CAP group photos.” Other evidence of Lee Oswald knowing David Ferrie had disappeared.

Ferrie’s interview given to Garrison investigators while he stayed at the Fontainebleau Motor Hotel eventually vanished. Ferrie vanished from the hotel on February 19, 1967.

Ferrie called Raymond Broshears, former roommate, to report his fear of being killed: “No matter what happens to me, I won’t commit suicide.” (February 20, 1967.)

“A secret report generated by the FBI on May 22, 1968,” says Baker, “confirms that Garrison planned to arrest Ochsner, a Reily coffee executive, and others associated with the New Orleans Project.” (p. 415.)

The body of Ferrie was found deceased about 11:50 a.m. on February 22, 1967 by Jimmy Johnson. The coroner’s staff arrived at 12:30 p.m. Three suspicious “suicide notes” were eventually found. Frank Minyard theorized it was a murder because of contusions to the mouth. “Dr. Minyard says David Ferrie was murdered.” (p. 435.)

On February 23, 1967, Eladio Ceferino del Valle, ex-Cuban congressman, associate of David Ferrie (Baker says there is some evidence of association), and an anti-Castro activist, was found dead in his automobile in Miami: beaten, tortured, and shot in the chest. Eladio Valle and Ferrie flew “anti-Castro sorties” in the past, as well as had involvement with Mobster Santos Trafficante.

“Numerous deaths, however, are still classified as ‘natural’ along with a plethora of suicides, murders and ‘accidental deaths’ that can no longer be ignored,” says Baker.

JG, while working for Al Crouch, began to get harassing phone calls about Ferrie’s pilot log books. JG later disclosed that said log books were confiscated by the felonious “spy” investigator for Jim Garrison, William Gurvich, a turncoat. “He was going behind Garrison’s back,” said JG.

“That dirty word ‘conspiracy,’ which actually accounts for most evil-doing on the planet,” says Baker, “are avoided most by those who perpetuate it.”

Similar sentiments were voiced by Robert Tannenbaum, HSCA Deputy Counsel, said after Tannenbaum originally discounted Garrison’s suspicions and investigation: “And then I read all this material that came out of (CIA Director Richard) Helms’s office, that in fact what Garrison had said was true. They (CIA agents) were harassing his witnesses, they were intimidating his witnesses.” (Bob Tannenbaum, Probe, July-August 1996 [Vol. 3, No. 5].) (pp. 431, 435.)

The reader will have to make further analysis of Baker’s book (which has elaborate appendences concerning testimonies, autopsies, and further never-before-disclosed information on David Ferrie’s life).

Baker has accumulated a number of critics that relentlessly follow her and try to poke holes in her story about her New Orleans experiences with, what she says, are members of the conspiratorial underworld in the Kennedy murder. The critics feel they have a strong complaint as it is based on the many seeming contradictions in the story and testimony of Baker. But as Baker pointed out to Erdmann, this happened often when debunkers are dedicated to finding such missteps and colloquial comments in daily conversation (imagine someone following behind you and perpetually examining your every word or move).

Ferrie Baker article Garrison_Jim_New-Orleans_1960s-300x203

Jim Garrison

Thank you for being the only person in America
with the courage to bring about a trial
in the assassination of John F. Kennedy

It would not be difficult to blacken one’s name if the critics’ research was not based on the totality of facts and information. Some critics have even opened websites and blogs dressed in nothing but what appears to be jealous vindictiveness, and according to Baker, the wish to get some type of revenge. Baker covers some of the attacks (Note, in the following, some identifying details are Xed over to afford protection to all mentioned parties):

“(Speaking of Xxxxxxx’s comments on Baker’s contradictions) … so-called ‘contradictions’ come from lifting comments from various parts of my manuscript and making it seemed that I reversed things, as well as form emails. The man altered. Xxxxxxx corresponded with me and pretended to be my friend. Then he demanded that I hand over my book to (another debunking group), or he would publish what you are citing. He even claimed I said Lee was not circumcised, as if I would talk about such a thing to him, when all we talked about was how to help his sharpei dogs’ skin condition, before I began sharing emails with him. These emails he cites are using statements taken out of context or deliberately altered! I would make a statement and by adding one word or a question mark, he changed the meanings. Note that Xxxxxxx has NEVER published anything significant after he began attacking me and Jim Garrison, unless you think his ‘Pxxxxxxxx Sxxxxxxxx’ site that he told me was paid for by Xxxxxxx (he denies this now), or his JXX online (another Xxxxxxx site) are to be considered worthy of citing…His JFK 100 list against Stone’s JFK is so unfair, getting on Olive Stone’s case because Stone made the movie that opened up the ARRB and all those files got released. Xxxxxxx treated the movie, which took some liberties for dramatic effect, as a DOCUMENTARY. From that false position he made up his 100 objections to the movie. He also claimed Dave Ferrie never confessed to Lou Ivon and Moo Moo Sciambra. This is not true…

“(If Erdmann would write questions to Baker) … I would be happy to reply. But since you are relying on my enemies to bring up questions for you, and want me to write what would be extensive essays in response, for I would have to prove much more than they, and then they would just bring up new objections, as they are not there to learn, but only to destroy. I am just shaking my head. What problems do you have with the book? What questions would you ask? Xxxxxxx’s ‘contradictions’ were previously answered in my own essays online. Of course he won’t tell you where the essays can be found (hint: at judythbaker, blogspot, com, etc.). What kind of reputation does Xxxxxxx have? Has he ever spoken at a conference? No. Has he written a book (only for his article on Clinton and Jackson)? No. Has he anyone who respects him except the Xxxxxxx contingent?” (July 28, 2015, 10:13 pm.)

Baker brings up a few “why ifs” that are interesting (but far beyond the scope of this article to include them here in their entirety). “Second, you should go to my Facebook page and see what I am going through right now. Ask yourself why they are trying to break my password and get into, after was taken over and is being used to ruin me.” (July 28, 2015, 9:42 a.m.)

Baker emphasizes that those who have questions about her claims should contact her personally for answers, either through her publishers or contact points on the Internet or Facebook.

What isn’t covered is “why” are some of the rabid and voracious attacks on the veracity of Baker’s claims. “Howard” (howpl) gave some insight in his April 8, 2004 comments:

“I have known Judyth Baker for 5 years. (I also “know” [Wim] Dankbaar from a Usenet newsgroup, though we have never met.) I am writing this note in the hopes that this is a group of educators (as opposed to Prof. Xxxxxxx, the immoderate ‘moderator’ of that newsgroup) whose ‘article’ on Ms. Baker, is a pile of trash. Pardon the immoderate language, but this nominal academic has been particularly destructive. Anyone who has spent the number of hours it takes to see Judyth’s evidence and hear her story knows that she is the genuine article. Xxxxxxx never even met her, though her door was wide open and her telephone number widely circulated.

“I co-wrote a book with Judyth, and also spent 14 months going back and forth with 60M on their intention, stated quite emphatically on the last go-round, to do a segment favorable to her. As Don Hewitt later said on C-SPAN, ‘the door was slammed in our face.’ Now what do you think he meant by that. The forces arrayed against Don Hewitt – the godfather of investigative journalism (on TV at least) were that powerful. Both he and Wallace believe her story, but as the diligent Nigel Turner segment proved, you really do have to hear the WHOLE story and see the evidence in context. It was nice, and I am thankful for the courage he showed, but viewers should not have had to rely on the talking head alone.

“Unfortunately, so-called ‘researchers’ in the JFK community, who spent little time interrogating her and viewing her evidence, have — to protect their own books — fought hard and fought dirty to sabotage both the book and the 60M show. They tried hard to stop Turner, too. This may surprise you, but the only thing that surprised me was the intensity of it. Who knew there were conspiracy theorists willing to go this far. Case in point: At the annual Lancer conference, held in Dallas, panelists have been informed that they may not discuss Ms. Baker’s story. For this and other atrocities, the head of Lancer has disgraced the research community. I am sure that Dankbaar has joined this forum in the hopes of finding a true academic sanctuary where open discussion is treasured, not banned.

“As for me, I am not sure that I can respond in a detailed manner to questions that come up here. It has been a wild, tiring, and discouraging five-year ride. But I do want it on record somewhere that I believe Judyth Baker knew the real Lee Harvey Oswald. I believe it without a single doubt. As she told me at the outset, the truth is complicated, but it is logical. But nobody has time for complicated in today’s world. It takes too much work.”

John Simkin perhaps gave the most concise summary of the events (March 13, 2004, 8:59 am, April 26, 2004, 7:53 am): “Researchers are divided on Baker’s story: a number of researchers have seen most or all her original evidence files and defend her (such as Jim Marrs, Martin Shackelford, Wim Dankbaar, Howard Platzman) while other researchers attack her story… Baker points out that almost all the researchers who have attacked her story have never met her or viewed her original evidence files. Far too many people involved in this case are quick to make abusive comments about the people they disagree with. I don’t see why we cannot disagree politely with each other. The main objective is to reach the truth. I believe the best way we can achieve this is by having an open, rational debate.”

One might add to that: that there are bits and pieces of circumstantial evidence that incessantly materializes to bolster her claims, such as Dr. Ochsner knowing Lee Oswald:

“Many people may think there are no documented ties of Ochsner to Oswald, but there are: Here is one:

Impression by Dr. Alton Ochsner, world famed surgeon and President of both the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation and the Information Council of the Americas [INCA], who perhaps was the only listener who knew of Oswald’s defection before the debate.)

It’s a record from the kitchen of INCA, the right wing CIA sponsored organization founded by Ochsner, reiterating the guilt of Lee Harvey Oswald as the lone assassin, with personal comments of Alton Ochsner himself (see middle photo on the back cover).”   (Wim Dankbaar, March 29, 2004, 10:00 am.)

Reading about and describing some of the multiple attacks and confrontations that Judyth Vary Baker has encountered resembles some of the scarier tactics that intelligence operations have created from their literal and figurative dungeons of torture.

One can speculate that from most outward appearances, the researchers that lean towards conspiracy in the murder of John F. Kennedy, and those elements associated in highlighting a conspiracy, are often confronted by critics that speak from prior dispositions that run together in dark circles, wolf packs, and often in vile malevolence. Such vice (seen so repetitiously) could be associated with various mental states such as xenophobia (fear of the unknown), mythophobia (fear of myths), rhabdophobia (fear of criticism), or heresyphobia (fear of challenges), and can also be aligned with a greater inner sanctum motivator: megalomania and authoritarian personality disorder; particularly in the arena of intelligence and governmental control.

Journalist Cameron Reilly introduced one of the government’s sub rosa intelligence projects this way:

“Mockingbird isn’t some conspiracy theory – like MKULTRA and the 638 attempts at assassinating Fidel Castro, it’s a genuine part of CIA history. Mockingbird has been written about in detail since the late 70’s, but it’s one of those pieces of U.S. history that isn’t talked about much in the mainstream media. Why? I assume because they would prefer people don’t know about it as it would make them ask too many questions, such as ‘how do we know the CIA isn’t controlling the media today as well?’

“It’s also one of those events in history that should help us all realize that we’ve been manipulated and lied to by the government and the media in the past so it’s entirely rationale to believe they might be manipulating and lying to us still today.”

Reilly went on to describe Operation Mockingbird as a sophisticated ruse by the CIA and the U.S corporate media to spread intentional lies to the American people and international readers.   May 26, 2012.

Steven Jacobson and Steve Kangas spoke in a piece entitled Media and Mind Control in America:

Steve Kangas

“Journalism is a perfect cover for CIA agents. People talk freely to journalists, and few think suspiciously of a journalist aggressively searching for information. Journalists also have power, influence and clout. Not surprisingly, the CIA began a mission in the late 1940s to recruit American journalists on a wide scale…The agency wanted these journalists not only to relay any sensitive information they discovered (and write about and replay information when requested…SE).”

Early progenitors of the project, said Jacobson-Kangas, were Frank Wisner, Allan Dulles, Richard Helms and Philip Graham (Graham was the husband of Katherine Graham, today’s publisher of the Washington Post). The sub rosa project included 25 media organizations and 400 journalists (or more), according to 1975 findings of the Church Committee, and read like a Who’s Who of journalism:

Philip and Katharine Graham (Publishers, Washington Post) William Paley (President, CBS) Henry Luce (Publisher, Time and Life magazine) Arthur Hays Sulzberger (Publisher, N.Y. Times) Jerry O’Leary (Washington Star) Hal Hendrix (Pulitzer Prize winner, Miami News) Barry Bingham Sr., (Louisville Courier-Journal) James Copley (Copley News Services) Joseph Harrison (Editor, Christian Science Monitor) C.D. Jackson (Fortune) Walter Pincus (Reporter, Washington Post) ABC NBC Associated Press United Press International Reuters Hearst Newspapers Scripps-Howard Newsweek magazine Mutual Broadcasting System Miami Herald Old Saturday Evening Post New York Herald-Tribune, the New York Herald-Tribune, the Saturday Evening Post, Scripps-Howard Newspapers, Hearst Newspapers, the Associated Press, United Press International, the Mutual Broadcasting System, Reuters and the Miami Herald and many others.

(It is believed that Steve Kangas was working on a book about CIA covert activities when on 8th February, 1999, he was found dead in the bathroom of the offices of Richard Mellon Scaife, the owner of the Pittsburgh Tribune [Scaife was a person that Kangas believed was a CIA operative]. He had been shot in the head. Popular status quo was told that he had committed suicide; other people believe he was murdered. In an article in Salon Magazine [19th March, 1999], Andrew Leonard asked: “Why did the police report say the gun wound was to the left of his head, while the autopsy reported a wound on the roof of his mouth? Why had the hard drive on his computer been erased shortly after his death? Why had Scaife assigned his No. 1 private detective, Rex Armistead, to look into Kangas’ past?”)

Greg Burnham, who quoted extensively from Operation Mockingbird: How Democracy was manipulated through the mainstream Media (Staffan H. Westerberg and Pete Engwall), disclosed additional facets of the intelligence scam.

Greg Burnham

“In the early 1950’s, CIA launched a propaganda program put together utilizing the expansive media machine within the United States…probably the most important vehicle ever for the power that is behind the CIA to control and manipulate the public…perhaps the most devastating Intel project ever inflicted on the American people and democracy in the United States. Today most people have never heard of it, and the majority of JFK researchers rarely bring the truth of Mockingbird into their research equation:

———-# Reporters on the CIA payroll forcing witnesses to change their story.

———-# Special assets within the media who affect others to act and report incorrect conclusions, opinions and perceptions.

———-# CIA directing assets within the media.

———-# Editors who can review texts and change facts to suit.

———-# Reporters and other assets in the field become watchdogs for developing news.

———-# Editors that step in to defend and shift focus.

———-# Assets that control debates and create diversions.

———-# News organizations and chief editors who avoid critique and project the official line.

———-# Media organizations that project false images and scenarios.

———-# Media Management that work with policies and establish in-house views – which leads to a hidden culture.

———-# Agency infiltrating social media.

———-# Photo editors that manipulate images.

———-# Falsification of historical events and interactions and influence with private researchers.

———-# Disinformation campaigns.”

The Pentagon Papers

Writer Mary Louise explained that CIA assignments ranged from intelligence-gathering to serving as go-betweens at hundreds of businesses and universities, often using Ivy League graduates (such as Yale figures George Herbert Walker Bush and the Skull and Crossbones Society).

“Many Americans still insist or persist in believing that we have a free press, while getting most of their news from state-controlled television, under the misconception that reporters are meant to serve the public,” said Louise. “Reporters are paid employees and serve the media owners, who usually cower when challenged by advertisers or major government figures.” (Mary Louise, Mockingbird: CIA Media Manipulation [2003].)

Louise highlighted newsman Robert Parry who wrote about news-breaking affairs in the Iran-Contra episode for the Associated Press: Parry found that his stories were often ignored by the press and congress; he further witnessed the actual retraction of a true story when working for Newsweek for political reasons.

In “Fooling America: A Talk by Robert Parry” Parry said, “The people who succeeded and did well were those who didn’t stand up, who didn’t write the big stories, who looked the other way when history was happening in front of them, and went along either consciously or just by cowardice with the deception of the American people.”

Recent history included the famous whistleblower Edward Snowden who exposed the National Security Agency breech and use of private communication of the citizenry, and according to researcher Kristan Harris, “are attempting to manipulate and control online behavior even going to the extreme of setting people up using what the GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters [UK]) calls ‘Honey Traps.’ They then go on to force you into behavior you may not have been in and use the information to discredit American patriots who oppose the current establishment.”

Glenn Greenwald, a journalist who leaked the information, had stated:

“Over the last several weeks, I worked with NBC News to publish a series of articles about ‘dirty trick’ tactics  used by GCHQ’s previously secret unit, JTRIG (Joint Threat Research Intelligence Group).
“These were based on four classified GCHQ documents presented to the NSA and the other three partners in the English-speaking ‘Five Eyes’ alliance. Today, we at the Intercept are publishing another new JTRIG (Joint Threat Research Intelligence Group) document, in full, entitled ‘The Art of Deception: Training for Online Covert Operations.’”

The files showed how shill agents infiltrated the internet to manipulate stage and attempt to corrupt reputations, said Harris, and Harris strongly questioned the use of espionage against its own citizens. “Are these extreme tactics of deception by our government honorable?” Harris asked. “These documents show how the GCHQ trains and engage in ‘false flag operations’ to purposely deceive and set individuals up (online).”

Perhaps the American public will need to hunker-down, in some respects, to an on-coming flood of evil, as herewith forewarned in the feelings and words of the late Jim Garrison (Russell, On the Trail of the JFK Assassins, page 100 [Baker, p. 432]):

‘“We’re investigating a conspiracy which appeared to have occurred in New Orleans…if they (the government, SE) want to help me, I’ll welcome their help. But I’m not reporting to anybody.’ Those were strong words…before long,” says Baker, “the most powerful machinery of the government had been uncorked against Garrison…the full story of how Garrison was ham-strung would fill a volume.”

I have been studying both the administration and assassination of the 35th President, John F. Kennedy, for a great deal of my adult life. The tragedy inflicted by the assassination of JFK–as President of the United States, as an individual, as a husband, and as a devoted father of two–is far outweighed by the impact this seminal event inflicted upon the Executive Branch of the Federal Government itself.

Dr Robert Heath
(1915 – 1999)

Dr Robert Heath was Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology at Tulane University in New Orleans from 1949 to 1980. He performed many controversial experiments involving electrical stimulation of the brain (ESB). In one procedure, Dr Heath wired up the pleasure centres of a gay man. During a three-hour session, the subject, code-named B-19, electrically self-stimulated his reward circuitry some 1,500 times.

“During these sessions, B-19 stimulated himself to a point that he was experiencing an almost overwhelming euphoria and elation, and had to be disconnected, despite his vigorous protests.”

Pete Engwall & Staffan H. Westerberg

Staffan H Westerberg: Is a 53 year old journalist from Stockholm, Sweden, who used to live in the States in the 80s – lived in LA and have a lot of relatives in the Chicago area since the 1930s. He has been an investigative journalist since the mid-90s and did mostly crime investigations/reportage. Pete Engwall is another kind of creature. He is actually an inventor, from a long line of inventors. He is related to Jonas Engwall, one of John Erikssons apprentices, (J Engwall actually invented the propeller). Pete is also related to Wilhelm von Scheele, who discovered 7 basic elements, among them Oxygen.

Carlos Marcello

Organized Crime (1910–1993)

Carlos Marcello was best known as the mob boss of New Orleans, and for the FBI’s investigation of his possible involvement in JFK’s assassination.

Steve Kangas

Investigated Operation Mockingbird

Steven Robert Esh (he later changed him name to Steve Kangas) was born on 11th May, 1961. His parents were conservative Christians and he attended private religious academies in South Carolina.

After graduating from high school in 1979, Kangas joined the US Army. He was later transferred to military intelligence and spent a year in Monterey (Defense Language Institute) learning Russian. He also spent time at Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas before being sent to do secret work in Central America.

In 1984 Kangas moved to Germany where he was involved in electronic eavesdropping on Soviet military units in Eastern Europe, analyzing the transcripts and reporting back to NATO. It was at this time he began to question his conservative political beliefs.

It is believed that Kangas was working on a book about CIA covert activities when on 8th February, 1999, he was found dead in the bathroom of the offices of Richard Mellon Scaife, the owner of the Pittsburgh Tribune (and a person Kangas believed to be a CIA front). He had been shot in the head. Officially he had committed suicide but some people believe he was murdered.

“New documents released by the CIA show how the agency worked with some of the country’s largest newspapers to destroy San Jose Mercury News’ Gary Webb, a journalist who famously exposed the CIA’s connection to the cocaine trade in the “Dark Alliance” investigation.

Tactics used to destroy Webb, who was found dead in his apartment in 2004 with two .38-caliber bullets in the head, included a massive smear campaign by journalists working with newspapers such as the L.A. Times. A report by The Intercept’s Ryan Devereaux reveals the paper used as many as 17 journalists to discredit Webb and his exposé…..”

The junior DRDE scientist who was allegedly attacked by two senior scientists.

GWALIOR:  Two scientists of the Defence Research and Development Establishment, or the DRDE, in Gwalior have been accused of trying to use one of their juniors as a human sacrifice.
According to the report, one of the two senior scientists called his junior to his house and then tried to attack him with a sharp weapon, but the man managed to escape.

DRDE director has ordered an official probe into the matter.

On July 21, 1964, Dr. Mary Stults Sherman was brutally murdered in her apartment building on 3101 St. Charles Avenue, in New Orleans. She was a prominent orthopedic surgeon and expert in cancer research. The assassination remains unsolved, although there are some investigators who think they came close to a solution. And the assassination of John F. Kennedy has, according to them, everything to do with this tragedy.
